I found that the North Carolina Maritime Museum offered a weekend course to build a half-hull model.
The instructor handled the class of neophytes along with one or two old salts very well. Using plans from the work of Howard Chapelle, we used 1" x 4" pine to cut the lifts, glue them together and then "cut away anything that doesn't look like a NC Shad Boat." When I get a chance to review the drawing (which are stored away from my home) I'll put the scale in the title and text.
I brought the finished shaped hull home and it sat on a closet for quite a while. Eventually, I got a large piece of wood that was the top of a book case from my local Habitat Restore, ordered some different types of wood to add the trim, rudder, keel and stem. I applied many coats of Tung oil for the finish.
As with my Dinghy album, this was done many years ago. I don't recall exactly when except it was an October weekend, miserably cold, the work shop had minimal heat, and I had a head cold. However, the weekend served as a great getaway for my wife and me.
