Edward Spurgeon

Model of Lightning Class Sailboat #5138 which was built in 1960 by the Skaneateles boat yard. Designed by Sparkman, Stevens.

There are over 15,000 Lightning Sailboats  today.

This model was started using Dumas plans but eventually was modified to the original Lightning Class plans.

Scale is 1:12  . The Harken cam cleats and halyard cleats were carved from wood. The centerboard Spool and the belaying pins were turned on a pencil lathe. The topsides were painted using automobile enamel.

Mast and boom have sail tracks. The turnbuckles are working.

Fantastic! Wow! My Dad sailed Lightnings (wood, of course) on Canandaigua Lake in the 1950s. He sailed out of the Canandaigua Yacht Club. (We lived in Pittsford, a suburb of Rochester.)  I would love to build a model of his boat. Where did you get those original plans you mentioned? Thanks!
