foxy got a reaction from Dimitris71 in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Thank you Lawrence .
Having near all the relevant parts and being retired allows me to do a little each day. plus this site has so much information even if its a wood build, the Victory is still the same ship in configuration.
Plus I have the Victory model site by Pete Colman which is crammed with Victory detail. this and all the wonder full books out on this subject.
How can I go wrong one asks, only in my skill as a modeller.
These aids are there but its the modeller who determines how his model turns out.
I am really enjoying this build for all the above reasons.
I also like looking at others to get some idea for my own build, and there are so many very nice works of art here, you could spend all day/night browsing.
Take your build for instance, makes me want to start my wood ship.
Having built many ships with out sails, its a challenge indeed on one with sails.
Regards Frank.

foxy got a reaction from popeye the sailor in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Then it was the turn of the upper deadeyes and chains.
This time the deadeyes are all the same and the chain lengths, so added the deadeyes to the fret till needed.
Having Dafis hints and tips is a great help, this I downloaded from his site.
With it you cannot go wrong and having the relevant books makes this much easier.
After removing the poop/quarter decks I found one or two problems will also ad some more plastic strip to the hull sides.
Think I have the right planking this time.
Also note the rope at the stern end, this is the rudder/tiller ropes that will pass up through to the ships wheel.

foxy got a reaction from etubino in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
A little more progress, this time on the deadeyes and chains.
I do have wood deadeyes, but the Heller ones go better with Dafis etched chains.
Using his hints and idea's I came up with another that works for me.
By using a pointer with a little CA around and press onto the etch chain.
Managed to turn out all the mizzen/main and fore deadeyes in a couple of hours.
A little Klear to seal and give a little shine later when all dry.
Kept the rest of the etch chains on the fret till I need them for mounting on the hull.
One very good point in Daniels hints is that you have to use the chains on the fret in sequence, and there are arrows ,names to follow for this. so making the dead eyes up is no problem.

Another update.
Made up the wheel and now making crew to work it.
Next it was fit the upper deck, this all went well and weighed down to dry.
At the same time going forward and then backward, 'if you see what I mean'.!!!!
I test fitted the quarter deck, this needed 2mm each side about a third the way up being removed.
'Yep weights still inplace'.
All went well after the surgery.
Also tested the forward castle.
fits fine and will go higher as ness.
Then it was the poop decks turn, this fitted well but need to sand off one side to lower.
Tested the fittings.
All seems fine now its time to go backward again

A little more progress with both the skylight and binnacle.
Bothe are Dafis etched parts.
First the skylight, no problems with this, glazed and added plastic strip to the inside.
Used dafis very good hints and folded the top with a wood dowl.
Also added plastic strip to the poop deck, later will plank out this deck.
The Binnacle was a hard item to fold, but used a hold an fold which made it a lot easier.
Added glazing and etched parts plus a plastic rod to the centre.
As seen along side the Heller part for this ship.

Another update, this time on the change of Heller items with Dafi's etched parts.
First the skylight over the captains quarters, strait forward, but after spraying let bits attach them selves, will sort later.
Pictures tell it all.
Next its the Binnacle, this to show the parts ness to complete. Used Dafi's very nice etch parts and some scratch additions.
Again first hand painted over primer sprayed.
Looks better once a sprayed coat is applied.
Also made up the railings as the Heller one's are to bulky I thought.
Used the Heller pillars and brass for the supports to the netting.
That's it for the mo.

Now finished one side of the Victory hull with hatch's and Dafis Resin canopy entrance.
Also added the cheque pattern to the Admirals quarters.
This deck(upper) goes in two halves for this next stage of the build.
Cheers frank

The figure comes from the 1/96 Constitution kit(which I have to build yet).
Converted with sword added.
Am converting lots of figures for this build and the Connie later.

Cheers Keith, happy modelling mate.
Moved on a touch with work on the hull, this time Hatch's and roping.
Made up Plastic rod and white thread for this part of the build.
Numbered hatch's and used Dafis eye bolts and etch parts.
Drilled out with etch template that comes with Dafis etched parts.
Done one side but need more for the other, so that's the next job.

Thank you Daniel
Well moved on to the flag lockers.
Decided to open up and have flags rolled up.
First I removed the front half and built up shelves with plastic card.
Was only going to do the one, but as you see both have now been done.
Used Daniels etch for the canvas cover, this will go on top.
Next it was the railings for the tops.
Removed the plastic bar supports and replaced with Dafis etch ones.
They look much better I think.

Moving on with the closed heart blocks, made a boob of the first set of Syren one's so ordered some more, will need eight of these for the stays and preventor stays.
Got it right this time round???.
Next it was the carronades that go on the forecastle, two in all.
So a little detailing is ness.
Added Dafi's etch and some scratch items.
Show before painting.

Well its a busy time and found some brass/stainless rings for hanging the anchors.
With black rope raped around ring and later will add cotton thread for seizing, also plastic strips that come with Dafis resin anchors glued around wood plinths.
Next it was the crest to finish, not to happy with this as the lions are not very good,(old Mold I expect).
Made up the ships bell with Dafis etch and extra brass rod to allow the bell to swing later.
I assume that the handle on the top has a pull rope attached, anyone Know if this is correct???.
Last pictures are the catheads added crown to front that comes with the kit.
More later

A little more progress this time on Dafi's resin Anchors and Knights head.
First the Anchors, there are three types(sizes),not much trouble here assembling, some sanding and filing.
Later when all ok, will spray black and make brass rings fettered, plus 1mm plastic strip for binding.
Next it was the Knights head, this is the basic shape after sanding and making sure it fitted the bowsprit.
A clearer picture of the additions of Dafi's brass etchings and some brass rod.
Just some brass rod supports for fixing and to spray black.
Again a very good fit and will be better than the bits from Heller.

Cheers Keith mate, A happy New year to you and your family.
Still on the crest and crown for this ship.
Using Daniels etched parts for the crown and wording.
First filled in the Heller Plastic part of the crown using Plastic putty, great stuff this and lasts and lasts.
Used round head pliers for the crown top.
Once crown fixed to crest started painting.
Still to finish lions on the crest, plus the lettering.
More soon.

Using the plastic base from the kit, filled in the corners and next will add the PE parts.
Note the lettering that will adorn the crest once this is painted.
More soon.

Well its on again with the fiddle blocks now strung and ready for use.
Then found a use of the Scale Warship resin heart blocks.
These are ideal once strung and painted for the bow sprit.
Once fixed and a paint these are ready for the next stage.
Just right for 1/100 scale.
On the subject of Heart blocks, made a big boob with Syren closed heart blocks, so have ordered some more , get it right next time around(tells one's self to read the instructions)

foxy got a reaction from etubino in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Well after the festive season its back to work on the Victory.
Made up the closed Heart blocks from Syren models.
Then started on the fiddle blocks, for those that have not used these, they come out quite well in the end, with care.
I start by gluing with pva white glue, leave for 24 Hrs under pressure.
Next remove and shape them with sanding sticks.
Last I drill out for ropes later.
Once done they are very robust and work too.
More soon shipmates.
Plus Happy New year to you all.

The blocks take up some time to make as most here know.
I do them some at a time, so as not to get bored and lose interest.
So its maybe seven or eight at a time..
This is how I do it, was wondering how others did this type of work.

foxy got a reaction from etubino in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Well been busy on the mizzen mast with Dafi's etch parts.
Used his etch parts for the boom rest, but used the Heller part for the belaying pins, but there is an etch for this also.
Will add a blob of PVA on the belaying pins.
Next it was the ropes that are added before the shrouds are placed.
Used Syren products for this.
An overall picture of the mast so far.
Then it was the turn of the Channels.
Added Dafi's eyelets to this, plus extras.
In the foreground are the mizzen channels.
Also added extra plastic to the width, this being 1mm and the lugs to connect.

Moving on from the yard loops, started thinking on the blocks with this type of loop needed.
So now working diff size blocks with loops.
Also doing sheaves for the main and foremasts.
Using brass sheave and .020 rope.
To give this effect, which will hold ropes later.
