P.S.  have plenty of the blast boot material left if anybody needs some,,unfortunately the wife washed out the powder burns so somebody would have to simulate their own

i agree with the last couple of posts, i too am building what i call a semi scale boat,, made some mistakes, made some changes on purpose and have a very nice looking model even if not historically correct...i get a real laugh listening to guys on here arguing about .010 of an inch on some dimension because its not historically correct and they want a model built just like the real thing,,, news flash guys!!!! the builders of these ships didnt have copiers, computers, cad programs, cnc power tools, so much for their pretentions of building the model just like the real ship!!!! more power to you, youll end up with a beautiful model

i tied to the fore and aft shrouds, wrapped around the inner with a dab of glue to keep it in place

tried the rat line methods i saw in the forums and was not satisfied with them, too slow, too tedious, too uneven etc... so came up with my own technique, fast , about two minutes per line, even, doesnt pull the shrouds out of line and almost idiot proof,, i can even see a way to easily and consistantly allow for the proper sag in the lines

my stupid 1234, the scroll work is a 16 gauge copper wire bent around two different dia. drill bits,,, hammered flat and soldered end to end........two days of work and it doesnt look like i'm getting out of this dark tunnel and into the airy realm of masting and rigging any time soon hung some chains just to see how much pleasure that is going to be,,,they are just hanging free till the stays go in

in one of the forums guys were discussing simulating caulk lines, so here is a side by side comparison,,one is done by edge gluing paper to the planks the other my own development, putting a .020 mil spacer between the planks, filling the space and nails with auto gasket sealer and sanding off,, cant tell them apart

only reason i can find for the main channel falling over the gun port is that dimensions taken of flat drawing dont compensate for the curvature of the hull,, just gonna have to run the chain above the gun port to the hull,,live and learn

i know the planking is not right, but, being the prime and only contractor on this build i took a few liberties, besides she's a work horse destined to ply the seven seas not sit on a mentle

she got a coat of primer this morning, i couldn't resist the temptation to see what she'll look like so i put up some of the out buildings on her deck, had to go outside for some decent lighting, couple more months to outfit her and than sea trials

so, i have not been skylarking, been , want to say planking but that just doesnt sound right for a destroyer, so been plating the hull, one coat of epoxy and a light sanding so far... taken 40  1/16x3x18 sheets of basswood  did, however, discover a talent for a new avocation in my off time,,,,,quilting!!!!!

so while waiting for the hull plate to arrive i've been making some of the small stuff, like the whaleboat canopies, and i'm willing to bet this is the only boat here with a pair of boxer shorts and panties as constituent parts, yes indeed, the little lady contributed a pair of her finest to the cause,,, what a women!!!!! and willingly i might add,, guess its true when they say " a family that builds together stays together"

so i put away the drill press and brought out the soldering iron,, got the drive shaft and the steering paddles temporarily mocked up,, took  longer than i thought, cypherin on the abacus is a bit slow...waiting for the neighbor to turn some bushings for the shafts on his nice craftsman mini lathe,, one i have been trying unsuccessfully to buy for five years,, and to add insult to injury he bought it at the estate sale for the previous owner of our house
