  1. Hey there Cap'n Rat Fink...!! Excellent builds...!!! Really Nice Work...!!! I'm curious as to what materials, or methods you use to get the 'Water, and Sea' effect... As long as I've been modeling, I've never attempted to produce this, and am looking for suggestions...!!! Thanks for posting...!!! Blessings...!!  Kim

  2. Hi Bob...Thanks for contacting me !! Anyway, feel free to contact me via Private Message, and I'll give you info, as to how to reach me, and where I live...I'm by I-70 & Kipling ( within two blocks )...I've already completed these ships, but I do happen to have two extra sets of the Scrollwork available...(I'm including a couple of photos) I'm actually in Wheatridge, which isn't far from where you are at all !! As I said...the replication of the decals, and the scrollwork is incredible...!!! Looking forward to hearing from you...and my phone number should be available in my profile info.  Kim

  3. Also...the mounting posts, of 'Pedestals' as they're called by Bluejacket, of  Model Expo,  are a bit tricky to fit...The slot in those available need to be 'widened' for the correct fit of the keel, via a 'Metal' cutting disc ( EZ Lock)  on your Dremel ( I use the 'Stylus' type Dremel...just a preference) with EXTREME care, not to cut too wide, or to accidentally cut off part of the stem, which I've done, and only had to turn around and re-order !!! ( Whew...!!! I really get winded !!!) Kim

  4. Thanks for the comments..!! The sails were actually from the original 1959 kit, and were in fairly good shape...considering the age !!...Ordinarily, there's a lady I usually contact, who is an excellent seamstress for quilts, and what-not, who has done my 'basic sails' for me ( can be viewed on the 'scratch-built Cutty') However, this time, I thought...'I can think of a way to make these look like cloth...!!!' The Styrene sails, had a kind of a muslin-like grit to them (which isn't found in the more recent ( Constitution) productions) ...I began by attaching an 'outside' border cord, all 'painstakingly applied' with my preferred liquid cement ( Plastruct liquid plastics cement) at 3.4" to 1" at a time around the outer edge...and then used the same process to add the 'Bunt' lines, and 'tie-off's, in the center of some of the sails...(the kit had them identical to some of the black & white photos of the real Cutty...I just used 'cut' pieces of thread, and glued them on top of the impressions from the patterns  already on the sails, from the injection molding...) This took an awful lot of patience...!!! The Final step, was to give them a 'wash' with a water based acrylic paint, that I thinned out almost by 25-35%...(perhaps even more !!) of Testors 'Poly Scale' ...shade 'Dust'...which worked out perfectly...!!! It's amazing how it seems to be the first question asked by everyone who sees the ships... 'Are those Cloth ??? They sure look like it '  which is exactly the response  / question you want to hear from any viewer - admirer...!!!! ( The final 'wash' consists of a brushing with (same paint brand) shades 'Dust', 'Dirty White',  'White' , and 'Flat Light Gray' for the 'weathered' appearance... And there you have it...!!! Hope this helps for future references / methods...!!! Blessings...!!!

  5. Thanks for lookin' in NevadaM...!! Sorry I'm such a lousy photographer !! Pics were taken with a Sony 'Handycam' 40X Zoom Camcorder...and I just can't seem to get the lighting right, no matter the time of day, nor with different lighting applied...However, I'm not giving up yet...previous pictures taken with this camera produced phenomenal results, that for now, I just can't seem to get...even using tripods to keep from being 'Old Shakey' with a lens !!!
