  1. The character I am currently working on ...
  2. Shure, it is just a quick test where I did put some things together. The software DAZ 3D Studio has a strong engine to create 3D characters and animations. The garment is done in another program called "Marvelous Designer". Finally all comes together in my main 3D software "Cinema 4D". The exchange of data (geometry and motion) between the applications alone is an effort in its own. The little videos just give evidence that things work in principle. It is not a meaningful animation. By the end of the year I might have things in place to produce more appealing results. Still have issues ahead of me in the area of simulating "Hair" and of course convincing animations ...
  3. This is another study that depicts the garment of an officer. Attention goes to the movement of the coattails. Implies a complicated workflow across cinema 4D, Marvelous Designer and DAZ 3D Studio. The principles are there but still a long way to go ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTUMZjEG4yU (The clip loops ...)
  4. Hello everybody, my longtime project gained some speed at the beginning of the year. My intention to bring a crew to the model now becomes reality. I had to solve some difficult problems but here the first test-render gives some evidence what might come across during the year ... all just a matter of spare time ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=tXKjxNYdI5Q
  5. Foam on the wave crests now adds some realism. The wake will be next. Then an overhaul of the sails. Still not satisfied with it. And another small (just 24h render time) animation:
  6. It's a passion, the 3D modelling as well as the age of sail topic. Time does not count. Moreover I am at it since 2008 (!) with long periods of inactivity.
  7. Hello, my latest activities result in the need of extending the memory of my computer beyond 12Gig. As I am waiting for the memory modules some animations here that I made a long time ago ... Turning the lower yard more than 30° results in a collision with the shrouds. Therefore I had to simulate what I think might have been the solution to the problem. Pushing the first rope of the shrouds a little bit while the yard is moved out a little bit forwards: This animation depicts the lifting of the yards while affected ropes and blocs move synchronously: Finally the animation of a gun and its rigging when being moved out and fired: More soon.
  8. The last days I tried to find an approach to the mizzen driver... ... and here a strength of the virtual model ... ... that's all for now.
  9. Hi, the latest addition comes here ... the jib and forestay sails ...
  10. Thanks, a source of inspiration. It is a perfect model and a real pleasure to see.
  11. Well then, something I had been after for a long time, the depiction of a convincing continous ocean surface reaching to the horizon is finally achieved. The surface is fully based on a deformed mesh plane (for the 3D people: use the Houdini Ocean Toolkit) animated with waves, wind and movement against the speed of the ship. I will see what I can do with it although it brings my computer resources to its absolute limits ... Further down find a new animation within this environment. This time with sound. It is not perfect tough. The ocean still has a butterfly effect (has been fixed meanwhile), the horizon has a flaw (also fixed) and the bow wave is a little bit out of control ( still a challenge). Animation:
  12. Things evolve ... and rendertimes as well ...
  13. Right, had already been complaint about by others as well. Will be corrected ... this is the least problem.
  14. Hello Bava, Points: 4.253.274 (10.491.162)* Polygons: 4.323.536 (10.167.557)* Objects: 29.848 (61.648)* ()* incl. instances 24 frames per second. Each frame takes 3-4 minutes on a decent double quad-core computer. My electricity bill will be horrible ...
  15. More here. The setup gets more accomplished now. The latest render features a bow wave and foam along the hull...
  16. Hi, finally the third HMS Pandora now. I started this project years ago and it was suspended quite a while. At the beginning of this year I did revisit it and finalized it. I am currently doing the first big render tests and put first results on YouTube: Some photes of the same setting here:
  17. Hi, at this moment I am doing the first big motion render. Even with some just preliminary light- and sea settings each frame takes 9 minutes!
  18. Hi, your 3D Pandora is outstanding. But be warned ... when it comes to the rigging ;-) You might have taken notice of mine here: http://www.navaltales.de/components/com_ponygallery/img_pictures/originals/20130217_1954330117_17022013-01.jpg www.navaltales.de Rgds, Stefan
