  1. First off, a very big thankyou to everyone who provided information on the colors (and history) of Victory. Bottom line, as was brought to my attention several times, the colors I choose are up to me, my taste (primarily it was nice to find out the name of the colors used through Victory's history). There was a truth made evident throughout this process: there is a wealth of information out there, you just have to get off your butt and look! I forgot about that rule of thumb, that if you want to know something go looking at the many sources available. What is somewhat of an embarrassment is what I used to do for a living in the Corps: I was an analyst for many years, and toward the end of my career became chief analyst, responsible for the quality of information produced (which means I should have remembered that there is an unbelievable wealth of information out there; you just need to take the time to look. Once again, thank you to all who provided all the great information. By the way, I have decided on yellow ochre!
  2. I guess I am just a bit dense, since (1) I cannot find my copy of planking fans and how to use them, and (2) is there a book/pamphlet/publication that details the proper way to plank a blunt bow hull (like Victory)? I don't consider myself a novice builder, having built several dozen ships of varying size and scale. But getting older has the condition of wanting to simplify procedures, but still getting the results (none of my ships are or would be considered museum quality); I began this hobby because I truly enjoy working with my hands, and building plastic models grew old in hurry. I will probably continue to build whatever I can get my hands on until either the eyesight gives out, the hands stop working or I head into the great shipyard in the sky. Still, it would be an immense pleasure to find someone who can show me how to line out a hull (if Chuck Passaro has anything like that, where do I find it?). Any help for this old Marine would be appreciated.
  3. In chapter 3 you show a carved/scraped piece below the stern windows, and later below and above the stern galleries windows. Did you make the scraper (how?), or is it something available retail?
  4. With the demise of Crown Lumber, it appears as though there are no more sources of strip lumber for ship modelling. I managed to purchase some wood strips before they closed shop, but that wood won't last. I am looking for boxwood, holly and cherry strips of one mm thickness and widths of 3 to 6 mm . If anyone knows of a source for such miniature lumber, regardless of nationality or location, please let me know. Hardwood from Micro Mark is fine, but the other woods make for much nicer presentations.
