  1. In the near future I will be starting a build of Revell's 1:96 Cutty Sark. For some time now I have been planning my general strategy for constructing this beast and so far, the only major X factor for me is the mounting of deadeyes. As some of you may know, the molded parts in the kit are a single plastic deadeye/ratline combination. In my opinion, the parts in the kit are just hideous, and I want to try going the extra mile with this one, so I decided to take a crack at running my own shrouds and ratlines. My research took me to HisModel.com, and it's selection of aftermarket parts, so of course I got a set of wooden deadeyes along with other parts to start with. I also got a set of photoetched parts that were described as Deadeye Clamps. There weren't any instructions on the HisModel site on how to use these clamps, and I'm honestly stumped as to how I would go about mounting these. Here's a pic of the parts: If anyone can provide any guidance as to how to mount these parts with the deadeyes, it would be greatly appreciated. I have to assume it involves modifying the rail that holds the belaying pins. I have also seen some Cutty Sark builds where the deadeyes were simply fastened with some florist wire twisted around them and mounted by drilling through the belaying pin rails and the points on the deck where the chainplates would be. Again any help would be appreciated.
  2. Good day Model Ship World. Well, I have been lurking here for some time now, but seeing as I have a rather ambitious project coming down the pipeline, I figured I'd make an account and start to get involved with the forums here. Everything I've seen here tells me it's a wealth of information with a great community to boot. Anyway, a little about me; I've been building models ever since I was a kid, starting with a 1:400 RMS Titanic when I was only 7. There were several others over the years as well; warplanes and a battleship or two mostly. Thanks to life in general, I haven't been able to build a model in some years. However, I've recently been getting the itch to build again, so I decided to finally take on a project that has been hanging over me for most of my life. When I was much younger, and there was still a Mom & Pop hobby store in my town (thanks for that Hobby Lobby) I bought a sailing ship kit that was well outside my skill level. (something I realized almost as soon as I read the directions) I completed a few steps of the model, but shortly after, I ended up shelving it away for over 10 years. I'm happy it never got thrown away, because I'm finally going to pick it up again! 'What ship is it,' you wonder? Why, it's none other than Revell's 1:96 Cutty Sark! I have been researching and making preparations to properly do this model for a fair bit of the summer and I am finally almost ready. I'm hoping to start a build log for the kit in a couple of weeks. I look forward to being a part of this community! Cheers!
