    Newbie here with questions. Is there such thing as a good beginners tool kit for some one who is just starting out. If not any recommendations on what tools would be a good to start with? This will be my first attempt at a wood ship model. Since I have always liked the paddle wheel riverboats, I decided to make this my first model. I got a great deal on the Artesania Latina king of the Mississippi. Probably not the best starter kit but certainly not the worst. Do any members recommend any how to books, manuals, etc. Cheers, Larry

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
