If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.

Hello all,
Having read a lot of interesting forum posts here and looked at some amazing pictures, it made me inspired to do some ship modelling again. Back around 1973-76 I built two Billing Boat models that turned out so-so. I did not have the woodworking skills that I have nowadays. So yesterday the Speedy kit arrived from Vanguard models in the UK and I found it appropriate to join MSW.
I am a retired engineer and in my spare time a spend some time in my garage workshop where I have done som 1:1 (full scale) carpentry. I am living out in the countryside so the care taking of the house and the surrounding areas takes it's time.
I have found some build logs for HMS Speedy and I will of course read these before the start of the kit build. I haven't decided yet if I will start a build log, but there will at least be some pictures of the finished model, whenever the finish line is reached.
