  1. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... that rigging is looking fantastic John... keep up the great work...blubber hook and tail hook looks great....
  2. looking really great John...as a suggestion you might want to make the rigging on the shroud dead eyes black as on the real ship we covered them in pine tar with a coating of black varnish which is a combination of pine tar ship black and shellack........i'll email you some pictures oof the rigging so you can see.....Lester
  3. That looks great John....Now to address the worming discussion. the standing rigging on the Morgan is wire rope. the last time it was wormed parceled and served was in the early 1980's... when we stripped off the old down to the wire and after we wire brushed it to clean we inspected it and found that it was in great condition. no corrosion. we did replace about 5% of the standing rigging only because of kinks and some corrosion but other than that it was re worm parcel and serve. If it is done right then the rigging is waterproof. the thing with parceling is when you do the eyes on the standing rigging you "shingle the parceling so that it is pointing towards the deck in this way it acts like shingles on a roof. also after worming you apply a liberal amount of pine tar before parceling. after the parceling is put on another coating or pine tar. then the service. after serving you apply a coat of black tar which is pine tar and shellack which becomes semi hard thus completing the water proofing of the standing rigging. John has a lot of pictures that I sent to him showing all this if you want Henrey I will send you the pictures also so you can see the process first hand. I really documented everything that i did... hope this helps. of course there is a lot of discussion about this but it seems that this works the best after all the standing rigging has been on the Morgan for decades out in the elements and was found to be in good order....also have videos of this too...
  4. that is a really good looking set up to serve the shrouds......actually it is easier than doing the real thing. keep on going.. I think I have a video I can email you that shows Sara using the service mallet that matt invented to do the serving quickly...lester
  5. That looks great John...glad you went with lookouts on both fore and main.. I never liked a royal on the main beside one royal didn't give that much of an advantage as far as sq ft of sail goes...but your rings look really good.. kudos...may you have calm winds and following seas..
  6. Carol didn't like it but she was tolerant of it cuz I loved what I was doing and my wife is a very supportive person...my work boots still smell of the loft....
  7. secure your shrouds between two points then do your worming and then the parceling.. then serve.....don't forget to tar the worming and parceling.. use black tar for the serving... black tar is a mixture of pine tar paint black and shellack...then you will have real shrouding..... only kidding.......but that is the way it is really done will email you some pictures of the process....
  8. John the masts are looking really great. she is looking like a ship. we were at about the same stage last year with the real deal.....only a lot colder outside last January...
  9. I'd finish up the futtock shrouds and then do your shrouds and add your tension thru the chain plate dead eyes... remember that the morgan had ratboards on the mast shrouds.....not ratlines...have a great day going out soon to dig out we have about 20 inches on the ground right now
  10. bending on means to attach one rope to another or some other object. sorry just used to using those types of terms when I'm talking about rigging....
  11. No problem John you know I'm always willing to help....the futtock shrouds look great now that they are served... time to bend on the ratlines I believe there are 4 per side.. bend on from one side loop over the center futtock shroud then bend on to the other side and you will have some awesome futtock shrouds....
  12. anyone wanting actual pictures of the morgan from its last restorationt to pictures of her in the late 1800's and early 1900's i would be happy to share. i have over 8000 items in my data base on the Morgan.......Lester
  13. WELL THAT IS EXACTLY THE WAY WE RE-RIGGED MORGAN... CHAINPLATES IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE DEADEYES. THEN THE MASTS WERE STEPPED AND THE STANDING RIGGING INSTALLED INTO THE DEADEYES. ON THE ACTUAL SHIP IT IS QUITE A PROCESS TO GET THE RIGHT TENSION ON THE RIGGING. TOO TIGHT AND YOU HOG THE KEEL TOO LOOSE AND YOU HAVE WOBBELY MASTS.. I WAS AMAZED AT THE LENGTH OF TIME THAT IT TOOK MATT TO DO THIS. HE DID IT ALL BY FEEL NO GAUGES OR MODERN EQUIPMENT WAS USED TO GET THE CORRECT TENSION, JUST COME-A-LONGS AND FEEL.I HAVE PICTURES OF MATT AND SARA DOING THIS IF YOU ARE INTERESTED..BY THE WAY THE MORGAN IS LOOKING REALLY GREAT...JUST REMEBER DO NOT PUT A ROYAL ON THE MAIN LIKE THE SEAPORT DID. I DONT BELIEVE THE MORGAN EVER HAD A ROYAL ON THE MAIN .. ALL THE HISTORICAL PICTURES SHOW TWO LOOK-OUTS. FORE AND MAIN..... LESTER
