    Sounds like some great advice! Similar to plastic- you don’t start with a level 5 F-14 bristling with Photo etched parts!! Little bites, hard as it may be!

    Hey Kieth- I’m just getting the interior details put in. A lot of mistakes, but I have learned from each one! What a blast it’s been! I’ll try to attach a picture from early on. I have worked on plastic kits, but never wood, there is quite a difference! I’ll put a picture of a plastic kit in too.

    Hi Y’all- new concert from plastic kits here. I’m enjoying the 18th Century Longboat by Model Shipways right now. It’s got me thinking about build #2- any suggestions? I’m a newbie so no triple deckers!! I’m hoping to find a good model suggestion and a build log to follow! thanks everyone- I hope to find some success with wood ship modeling!

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
