  1. No,not kidding Bob. I think the photo's made it look better than it was,and I wasn't happy with trying to put things right that the original owner did,so I'm on the lookout for a new untouched kit. Keith.
  2. Lost my temper with it,smashed it up with a hammer and put it in the bin. Need a nice new kit which no-one else has touched.Waste of time trying to put someone else's cock ups right. Will be in touch as soon as I get one.
  3. Having now replaced all the deadeyes on the pin rails with nice walnut ones,I've now got the fore-mast in position, and have started the first stage of rigging it.
  4. Another warning about the fittings for this ship. If you're building this Billing model don't use the plastic deadeyes provided with the fittings kit. They are useless, and break under the slightest tension. So now I've had to remove the pin-rails,get rid of all the plastic deadeyes and start to replace them with some decent wooden ones! Hindsight tells me that I should have done that in the first place, but hey-ho,you live and learn!!!
  5. Hi Keith, It seems so,but I'm getting to the really fiddly bits now,and I have cut my time in the shed down somewhat,so it doesn't drive me completely insane!!
  6. If anybody is building this model true to the Billing plans, please note that there are no spar booms on any of the mast assemblies. On the Campbell plans, and indeed on the real Cutty, there are.I've highlighted this in the photo. They're not on all the spars, just a few,so builders beware of Billings!!! It's up to the individual of course, but I do like things to be reasonably accurate!
  7. Yes!!!!! Approx.1,200 copper tiles, done. If anyone's interested, these are the ones I used. Caldercraft copper tiles from Cornwall Model Boats.
  8. While I'm waiting for the post to deliver the copper tiles,I've spent the last few days cutting drilling and test fitting the various parts for the masts. I'm really glad I've got a bandsaw and a scrollsaw!!
  9. Used up the 400 copper tiles I had left over from Victory, now just got to wait a few days for the new batch to arrive.
  10. Oh dear,I've cleared it all now.Does all this mean that I've got to mess it all up again??
  11. Thought I'd start coppering today.I sprayed the lower half of the hull with copper paint. Then,if there are any little imperfections as the plates go on,it won't show up so much!
  12. Pin rails in place. 1st job tomorrow is to tidy my workbench up--what a mess!!!
  13. Oh yes,I'd forgotten about that, but seeing as I've made my own,it doesn't really matter what it was for!
  14. A re-make of the Billings pig pen front. The bars will be painted black.
  15. Here's a small selection of brass parts from the fittings kit. The deadeyes and anchors are plastic, but I'll put up with them,as are the lifeboats and jolly boat,so I might have a go at building my own. Depends on how much patience I've got!
  16. First fix of deadeyes on the rear deck.Don't know if it's the correct way of doing it,but it works by this way!
