Hi Pastor Wes, this update is not attached to your build log. I think you have used the Status function instead of using the Reply to this topic box in your build log. Good luck with your build!

  2. Hello, I would like to introduce myself briefly. My name is Herbert Heger,
and I live near Heidelberg St. Leon - Rot Germany. I have been building historical ship
models since my youth, for example the Adler von Lübeck, Hamburg,
Fregatte Berlin, U-Boot 845, Constitution, San Felipe, Soleil Royal
and the Gorch Fock. I have now decided to build the Endeouver 1:35 from Amatie.
While searching, I came across your building report. A really detailed report
and a super model that you have built. Greetings from Germany, Herbert

Hi Herbert, welcome to MSW. If you decide to start a build log of Endeavor go to the top of the page and click on “Create”. From the drop down menu choose “topic”. Choose the appropriate forum by clicking on the arrow at the left. Create a title as outlined in the “How to use the MSW Forum”. Good luck with your project! Also as you can see, you may not get many responses when you use the “Status “ function.

  3. Hello everyone I bought a Bellona set from Corel for the occasion. The previous owner started assembling the ship, but apparently quickly came to the conclusion that it was not just necessary to assemble ready-made parts to make a beautiful model. The enthusiasm ended at the stage of assembling the frame with several slats of the first skin belt glued to it. I am also not an expert in ship modeling. But I have some skills, and I hope that I will build this model anyway. Why Bellona? As I said, on occasion. Specifically, the price turned out to be too attractive compared to the price of the set from the store. In addition, I looked at many options, the sailboats are all beautiful, but for some reason it was the Bellona that caught my eye with its appearance. Having already started to assemble the model, I began to search for information about similar projects on the Internet on various forums. As it turned out, there are quite a lot of them, as well as various information about this ship. Of course, I will use all this information in my work.

So, I'm getting started. The slats are glued to the frame incorrectly, I tore them off, and after examining the case, I decided not to disassemble, as it turned out later – in vain. I took off the paint chips where necessary and started covering the first layer.

  6. First installment.

This kit has a very flimsy deck and  the masts attach directly to the deck as you can see in the photos. I reinforced with strops cut from 1/8  in  styrene sheet, both laterally and longitudinally. I will probably also extend the masts to the keel with brass rod. I used a laser cut deck made of wood veneer it is sealed with two coats of

The masts were assembled with epoxy and brass rod in the in the cavities .  All the surface detail was removed. Metal mast rings will be added along  with cloth sails. Eyebolts, clears and mast clamps will be constructed of metal The topmost and gaffs will be made of wood.

I used a faux wood painting technique that simulates wood on the main and foremast. This was used on the bowsprit as

It was necessary to straighten the lower man mast as it had an odd double angle where the mainsail boom

The top mast, gaffs and  upper mast sections will be painted white. The lower masts will be painted the inner bulwark color., along with the  portion of the bowsprit  not projecting  from the bow and the foresail boom.

At this point, I have to leave it more to come later.

You will have to repost using the box at the bottom of your last post otherwise the update won’t be attached to your build log. Good luck with Schooner America!

  7. Here is everyone’s chance to be apart of history and help me identify the ship this 1819 Billet Head was originally from…

I recently acquired this Ship Billet Head and I am trying to see if it was from a US Cutter Service vessel or possibly a privateer. As model builders, I know you have researched in great detail various vessels of the past and perhaps someone will see this and help me identify which boat it came from.

    Some more details:
    Size: L 44” W 5”

It has exactly 13 stripes and 21 Stars. Looking up the flag records that would place it at 1819-1820. There is a very light blue behind the stars. I can also see remnants of gold leaf on the side carvings.  I’m speculating it’s from a revenue cutter or Brig IMG_0071.thumb.jpeg.e404ebd8fed7755a57d29af5108fe7a1.jpegas I have read they used the shield and billet at that time period to show American influence but haven’t seen any visual examples.

I would greatly appreciate any historical insights you might have on this piece or know who I can contact to learn its history. I’ve taken the diagram of the 1819 Cutter Louisiana and is proportionately identical.

And I’ve also found an example of a billet head with tail boards and it looks like mine originally had them to possible extend the side carving motif.

Apologize this isn’t a question about a model ship but if you help me identify it with a ship it will be a great addition to a model you could apply as it’s a real piece from that time period.

  10. Thank you for your kind words. My work with this model began with this very portal. Searching for information about this ship led me to this place. Charles W Morgan is the history of America, so I found the most information about this ship here and in the process I discovered many fantastic modelers who struggle with the subject of its construction. I am from Poland, I hope that my sentences are quite legible, my English is not the best and I am forced to use a translator.

  13. I'm thinking about getting an Iwata airbrush but I'm a bit confused between two models: the Iwata Custom Micron CM-C and the Iwata Eclipse Takumi. I’ve read great things about both, but I’m not sure which one would be best for me. The Custom Micron is supposed to be really good for detailed work, but I heard it can be a bit tricky to maintain. The Eclipse Takumi seems more versatile, but can it get the same fine details?

Hi everyone, so this is my first post.
After several visits to the Royal Naval Historic dockyard in Portsmouth last year, the bug has really bitten me, and nearing retirement age decided on a new hobby.

There seems to be a huge knowledge base here, so looking forward into broadening my basic skill set with you guys!

  15. Hello Everyone
    I am from Sweden

Thinking about starting my second model building.
    I have built Nordkap 476.
The build with Nordkap I wanted to build from a blueprint. not built from a model.
It was that challenge that attracted.
from pieces of wood to something nice.
So the cost of that build is just the pieces of wood and glue.

Congratulations on completing your Nordkap build and good luck with your next build. Hopefully you will start a build log for the build you are thinking of beginning. I look forward to seeing it.

Hi Felix, welcome to MSW. When you start a build log, click on “ create” at the top of the page. In the drop down menu you will see “ Status “ and “Topic” . Choose Topic instead of Status. Then select Forum. Choose Build logs for ship model kits by era. In this case you wil choose Kit build logs for subjects built from 1751- 1800. Then give your build log a title. Name of Ship/ Your Name/ Kit Manufacturer/ Scale. When you use Status to make a post any replies you receive will not bump your post to the top of the page. Good luck with your Bounty.
