  1. There are a couple things that are keeping me from doing a build log. Mostly, with working two jobs, I barely have the time to even put a ship together. I tried with the Polaris, but just couldnt maintain it. Also, (and I know this isn't healthy), but my work is just not up to par compared to what others are doing here. Im super new to modeling in that I've only done some really basic stuff like the dory and Norweigan Pram. The Endurance was probably a bit of a stretch for me and I've made several mistakes on it that are pretty glaring and embarrassing. (I put the decorative sticker that is supposed to be on the bow in totally the wrong place lol). Seeing the pictures you guys post is teaching me one super important thing. . . I need to just slow down. I'm so excited about finishing this thing that I'm wanting to see progress too fast and it's hurting the quality of my build. I sure appreciate the time you guys take to post your pics. They are super helpful! Once I'm a bit more confident in what I'm doing, I'll try and maintain a log. Anyways, sorry for hijacking your thread! -Travis
  2. The level of craftsmanship on this thing is unreal! After seeing this and Tom's, my Endurance model will never see the light of day on this forum haha! So awesome to watch you progress on this.
  3. Thanks so much for the suggestion! I got so frustrated with the contact glue that I decided to abandon the outer planking all together. I’ve filled in the holes with wood filler and have tried create a more weathered, seasoned look. For the most part it’s looking ok, but not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea. I’ll have to post more pics soon.
  4. Hey everyone, I’ve made a pic of progress on the ship and thought I’d post some pictures. I’ve got the hull planked and though it wasn’t in the instructions, I did end up putting some wood filler in a couple, well pretty much all over, the hull. It made for lots of sanding but it’s turning out ok. I actually used a rotary sander on the hull and it saved tons of time, but was a bit sketchy to use. Not sure if I’ll ever do that again. im starting to line the hull with the darker colored wood strips and am finding this part a bit harder to deal with than expected. I bought some of that liquid glue/cement as recommended by the instructions. It doesn’t seem to hold great at first but is quite solid after a while. Any advice on how to do this exterior hull lining?
  5. Hi everyone, I just got done (kind of) with the shipwright series and decided to make a small step up and do the Polaris by OcCre. I botched the lobster smack and it’s now somewhere in our local landfill. I’ve never done a build log before and don’t really know all the part names and honestly will never figure out what side port is and if the front is aft or not lol. I’m sure this stuff will come, but for now I’m just enjoying building! I haven’t documented the process that well but here’s where I’m at. I’m getting a bit ahead of myself and have started putting together a couple things that go on the deck. Some of those little features are already on it. Hopefully that doesn’t cause probs for me later. id love for anyone to point out any places that need work. I’ll try to keep this updated, but I am a two job guy so my time is a bit limited. -Travis
  6. Thanks guys! Looking forward to getting this hobby further under way!
  7. Hello everyone, My name is Travis and I live in Utah, USA. I am 47 years old and work and forensic stuff for a local law enforcement agency. I work 4 days a week and have found I have too much spare time at home during my days off, especially during the winter months. I decided to get into this hobby to give myself something to do at home when work isnt calling. I've already completed my first little Dory and am working on boat number two! Looking forward to interacting with you guys! -Travis
  8. Hi guys, First time post here, though I’ve been doing lots and lots of browsing. I recently purchased the Model Shipways Shipwright series and am well on my way into the Pram. I am really enjoying this new hobby, but definitely find it intimidating and difficult. My dory is done and is a bit of a trainwreck, but it was educational and a great start. I’m already shopping for ship/boat number 4 but want something that is just a small step up from the Lobster Smack. Yet I do want a bit of a challenge. Can you guys give me some recommendations for what I should try out? Thanks! Travis
