I use the same technique often. It works very well. I have more photocopies all over my work area than parts. I agree it keeps all the original plans nice. When I get done I keep them in a binder for later reference if needed. It also organizes the build. As you do I copy the bulkheads, cut them out and paste them to the bulkheads then fair them to the pattern lines. The copies at 100% are extremely accurate. Below are photos of the Bluenose keel that was broken and missing part of it. The copy made it way it an easy repair. As always Best Rick (RVB)

I’m rescuing an Amati Bluenose kit that was started 17 or more years ago and was listed on eBay . It is one that’s currently in progress and there is a log build (1900 -present). The planking was hap hazardly started , the decking was atrocious and parts were missing and broken. I offered the owner a very low offer and he took it. I am just starting the rigging and it’s turning out well. Amati kits are pretty good but in my opinion not as good as Model shipways. After I finish the Bluenose ( which will be soon) I will start the Endevour. Best Again RVB

Sounds like we all have the same bad habits. I am also working on 3 at the same time with 2 more waiting on the sidelines. I totally agree it’s nice to move between builds while one is drying another waiting for small parts to come in and the third begging for my attention. By the way one of the kits sitting on the sidelines is the Amati Endevour. Looks like I will be following your build also Terry. Best RVB

Thanks Gregg i just ordered model shipways brass belaying pins vs the Amati ones supplied. I also have beautiful blocks to use in the rigging. I agree with you that builds look nicer with standing rigging vs sails which hide detail. By the way I have the hull of model shipways USS Constitution almost finished. I need to get back to it. This may sound crazy but I have 2 or 3 boats presently in progress. I am sure there a lot of us modelers in the same position (Some finished Some not) Enjoy your model shipways USS Constitution build. It is quite the undertaking. a

Welcome I am retired and single and permanently use the dining room table as my hobby shop. It’s great to not having a wife forcing me out and having to pick it up every night. I am sure all other modelers (female or male) know exactly what I mean. Best Rick (RVB)

This was an abandoned kit for sale on EBay. It appears to have been abandoned after a planking attempt. As you can see from the pictures it has broken and missing parts. After a very low offer it was accepted. The kit arrived 2 days ago. After cataloging the contents it appears to have a broken false keel with a section missing. Most other parts are with the kit. The attempted planking will require some filling. The deck planking was done well but the color and vanish is atrocious. Any suggestions on correcting it short of sanding it down 1/32” and replanking it will be highly appreciated. Since numerous Bluenose histories are on MSW I will only post the limited history that’s is on the front of the box.

Welcome and enjoy!! I agree 100%. When I am building a kit time gets distorted and an hour goes by in what seems like a few minutes. The downside is that it is a great way to shorten your life. Best Rick (RVB)
