Status update. I've added some yards and fixed the rigging. I also placed the canons, but am still working on getting the hatchets in the right position.

Thanks Anja, Indeed I already notice that I need to wax it every once in a while. Especially now Work is still in progress. Once ready, she'll go into a dust-free case. :-) Thanks for your comment! Alex

I also aged the deck, with some liquid: a combination of ammonia, vinegar and some steelwool. Afterwards I had to sandpaper a bit, but I like the result. Rgds, Alex

Hi Bodo, Thanks for your comment. Corel supplied two kinds of wood for the second planking. It was walnut and another kind of wood (don't know by heart). I decided not to paint the lower half, so I bought additional walnut strips. The color was still a bit lighter, but I don't mind that. I used furniture wax (not the liquid type, but the real wax), in the color Tudor Oak. I used different kind of rope, brand Amati in the local model kit store. Colors black and blank in different thicknesses. And I left out details that are in the kit, like the hatchets on the deck. The rigging I try to do (as far as I'm capable :-) ) like in the books of Ab Hoving, who was director of restauration in the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum. I'm glad you like it! :-) Best Regards, Alex

I'm now adding the rigging of the main yard. I'm not following the Corel drawings, but I'm trying to get a bit closer to the Ditch 17th century rigging.

I decided to plank the complete hull in walnut wood, which I had to buy extra, since Corel supplied different wood for the lower part of the hull.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
