  1. there are items on the deck view plans that are missing from the full scale rigging plans, vise versa, and guys that should be there omitted altogether. Regardless I have two queries; 1; where would the pad eye on the deck be for the main stay, ie. how far back from the bow, and does it pass the fore mast port or starboard. 2; the stays are supposed to rest over the shrouds but I like to start rigging on the inside and thus rig the stays first. is that bad? does it matter? jp
  2. hey Gary, i've just started the rigging process for my Fair American Build and before I step the masts have rigged the bowsprit et al. I've be very interested to see how your flying jib boom guys turned out as I am thinking of perhaps adding them. thanks. JP

  4. hi ya'll; what would be the best product for staining dowels on a 1:48 scale model? the dowels are a real light wood color and i need to get them more realistic looking. i tried golden oak minwax wood finish as i had it sitting around to bad results as it did not take evenly and thus ruined my Jib~boom. damn Minwax . any recommendations? thanks. J
  5. lol... now I just need to know how to delete one's own post! I just found all my answers here. http://www.civilwar.org/education/history/navy-hub/navy-history/the-blockade-runners.html?referrer=https://www.google.com/ sorry.
  6. hi, I am going to attempt a plastic build of the Harriet Lane Blockade runner by Lindburg however I am wanting to modify it and thus my question. what I like about the blockade runners were their sleek and fast, un-fussy and simple design. so I want to cut off the bowsprit, make a turtleback covered deck, while we are here what was the purpose of those? due away with the topmast, mainyard, et al. you know, turn it into a sleek and fast blockade runner with not that much up top.. so, were existing ships of the day thus modified to make them have a lower profile? or were they only built thus. also what was the preferred color scheme for these vessels? bulwarks red? gray? freeboard, etc I want to modify it like the one in the picture but although I am not making any specific blockade runner, like a generic every day blockade runner, I want to keep it historically accurate, plus I want to learn more about these vessels. thanks for any info you may have.
  7. I've been trying to find a one meter sail boat to remote control. I can't seem to find any kits and would not mind getting a plastic almost ready to sail kit but those are even few and far between with mixed reviews... does anyone know or can direct me to where I can find one. a decent one? thanks. JP.
