I find my self confused again guys and gals. I did my research and purchased the Apostle San Felipe galleon kit

. I compared the dimentions, number of cannons etc construction info and found that the kit has the same dimentions and armerment as the research indicated. I also found that there were a number of galleons named San Felipe throughout the 15th, 16th and 17th cneturies. But only one was built as part of the12 Apolstle group back in 1589 and launched in 1590. So the dimentions on the box (1:60), and the name on the box all fit the Apostle San Felipe (1690-1596). I met a person on another site that said I was wrong and that the galleon in the kit was no way the one I thought it was ; that it was built.much later. So I contacted the company OcCre. They said the model kit was built from info taken from a 1700 San Felipe. But during that period all the galleons built named San Felipe were larger and carried many more cannons.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS KNOW ABOUT THIS SITUATION?

The San Felipe is a different ship and was a ship of the line from around 1700.

The Apostle Felipe definitely looks like 16th century or early 17th century to

me.

That may have been a translation error on the part of Occre.

They also have a kit of the San Felipe, and probably thought you were talking about that one.

Thank you for your reply. My research shows that there were 5 different ships named San Felipe from 1570 - 1800. When I emailed OcCre I was very specific to help insure there was no confusion.

Anyway, thanks for your comment. Happy building

And it could also very well be the case that ocre put a famous name and history on a ‘generic model’. Especially with the old and famous names, every one wants to build a model of it, but hardly anything is known on the ship.

The same aplies to eg the Friesland by Mamoli: they took a model, and fabricated a history. There is no overlap between the historic Friesland and the kit.

Santa Maria and Mayflower: not models of the original, but of famous reconstructions fromthe sixties.

So: i think you should take all claims on these models of older ships with a grain of salt. It is at best a model of how we think it coul have been
