Hello! I got the plastic kit from Zvezda, 'San Gabriel.' Heller and Ocsidental were the previous manufacturers of this kit. The accuracy and quality leave much to be desired. Therefore, I am building the model without exact adherence to the era or to a specific ship. I changed the shape of the bulwarks, added fenders, and the upper platforms on the castles were narrowed due to casting irregularities. The bulkheads on the castles, the decks, doors, and rudders are homemade. I modified the cargo hatch on the forecastle, moving it towards the aft castle. I added a twin-deck with a ladder. I moved the foremast aft for convenience in artillery placement. I changed the shape of the bow, the beak-deck, and added my own figurehead. There are various shields on the hull and deck, and the forecastles are from another model – a Hanseatic cog. I carefully chose the armament, considering various options for quantity. I settled on ready-made cannons from the kits: Niña, Black Falcon, Elizabeth, Eagle, as well as homemade ones made from sprues and the writing parts of ballpoint pens. I even found some very old brass ones. The gun carriages are homemade from plastic and from the Elizabeth kit. A homemade bitt for the anchor rope.

Hello! I inserted light falconets into the aft gun ports. Since the hull did not fit well due to the warping of the castings, I reinforced the glued joint with a couple of rivets from the sprues. The rivets are on the stem posts, and I hid the protruding parts under the shields. The heraldry on the shields is fictional. I made a windlass; on my ship, it is larger than on the original model. At first, I made my own boat from improvised materials, but I settled on a modified boat from the Black Falcon. The saddle on the bowsprit for the water-wooling is a part invented by the local shipyard carpenters and has no historical counterpart.

I added a stern light myself. A piece of plexiglass, some plastic, and a twisted, flattened wire.

Здесь представлены поворотные крючки. Я не фотографировал обычные. Но я сделал их штук двадцать, думаю, на данный момент достаточно.

Hello! I sew sails for a carrack. Some of the sails are made from an old shirt, and some from purchased batiste. I rewove the dyed threads and covered them with acrylic varnish. The bolt rope is glued with cyanoacrylate and acrylic varnish. The crosses are drawn with a ballpoint pen. In one photo, there is an attempt to draw a cross with an acrylic marker. I haven’t yet attached the mainsail with the bonnet.

Hello! From the rigging, I left the main and mizzen masts, topmasts, bowsprit, all yards and spars made of beech wood, and the foremast is made of bamboo. I used bamboo just to try it out. The topmasts and all mast connections are made of plastic. The topmasts ended up much bigger than on the plastic model. But this size could probably also be correct. The shrouds, futtock shrouds, deadeyes, and turnbuckles I’m making all after a many-year break from modeling, so they’re not as good as I’d like yet. I painted everything with acrylic paint.

Hello! I made mast tackles on the main and fore masts. It's possible that on carracks this rigging didn't exist, or it was arranged differently. So I placed two blocks on the long-salingeating, but I only installed one tackle on each mast. One on double-sheave blocks, and the other on a long-tackle block. The blocks are not painted yet, but I’ve already found a suitable paint that doesn’t peel off plastic and can be applied without primer. That’s more convenient. The paint is called nitroacrylic. Long ago, I used to paint plastic models specifically with nitro paint. Now such paints are rare. Acrylic is everywhere.20251016_012817.thumb.jpg.03306a373ed59622c3de429c9bb9d959.jpg20251015_015946.thumb.jpg.7eb1529a55ba984b73b3886b7596b918.jpg
