Revenge, 1577 Royal Navy warship

I had a recent opportunity to take studio quality photos of my model, Revenge (1577). This build was an extensive kit-modification of the Amati Victory Models 1:64 kit I built in 2013. I gifted it to a relative several years later, but didn't have the chance to take good photos before it left its moorings in my home: it will now be returned to take its place in his office.

My modifications included substituting pear hull planking and scratched masts and spars from boxwood. The kit's rigging thread was also replaced with SyrenShipModels rope; pear blocks from Syren were substituted for the typical ungainly looking square ones supplied in this and many other Euro kits.

The model is displayed on a custom-routed baseboard that has an inset of reflective bronze-colored acrylic. I also opted for small brass gryphon creatures to support the hull. I wanted something appropriate to complement the maritime age of the ship.

This kit is an excellent one designed by Vanguard Models' Chris Wattton and is still available.

I remember being stunned when I saw this, and am equally stunned today!  Thanks for posting the enhanced photos - looks amazing!

Beautiful craftsmanship.

Your relative appears to be taking good care of it.

Thanks Mike(s)!, much appreciated. This ship is a favorite in my family, especially all the g'kids; reminds them of a "pirate ship." Although this model resides in my WayBack log (2013), I recall that it has been one of my favorite builds. The Amati kit included printed decorative patterns to glue to the bulwarks; after attaching one strip I decided to hand paint and replicate all the color patterns. This minor concession and additional step was worth it since my imperfect handwork enhances the overall impression.

Besides taking new photos, I spent two days cleaning (dust) and doing a few minor rigging repairs.

You'll both note that my son-in-law is named Michael😁

Absolutely gorgeous!  HMS Revenge has been a favorite of mine for over 40 years.  Such an elegant galleon.  I have the Amati kit, and hope I can do as well as you did building it.
