USS Houston - circa 1964

As a teenager I was awed by the story of the USS Houston and her final battle, in company with the HMAS Perth, in Sunda Strait the night of February 28-March 1, 1942.  The story inspired me to make a model of her.  This is the result.

A dear friend of mine, Quinn Madsen, God rest his soul, was a chief gunnery petit officer on her.  He rarely talked about his experience.  He was writing a book about his time, but passed before he finished it.  Hated Rice and never forgave .  He said he was one of the 77,  out of about 750 that  lived  after the sinking , who lived through the prison camps.  I wanted to build a model of her for him, but he passed before I got to it.  Thank You for building it. -Hal
