  1. Hi guys! This is my first post and While I'd like to build my first wood ship to be of the Cutty Sark, I'd like to make the second thethermopylae. I know Mantura makes a thermopylae ship but it on the smaller side for me, which is odd cause I love building 1/700 scale ships. But I was thinking of going big with the 1/78 scale Cutty and then get another for my thermopylae. Can this be done? What sites and books for research do you guys recommend? Also could the 1/78 Cutty sark be used to make any other famous clippers? Ariel? Teaping? Sir Lancalot? Firey Cross? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
  2. Greetings, One of my clients sent me this most interesting links to a software product. Trying to figure out where the modelling industry is going is a little like herding cats. However, there is one thing that is certain and that is that more and more builders are becoming interested, and proficient, at using the best technology that can be found to make their models. This little piece of software seems to point in an interesting direction: http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/model-builder.html One can imagine using such a tool to make decks, copper plating or some interior surfaces that are not easily seen once the model is completed. Regards, Rick
  3. Greetings. I'm about to ship out another wonderful kit from Amati; their Pegasus model. As with Lady Nelson, the the frame is constructed with MDF instead of plywood. I would like to get some opinions about how this material compares with good, old, plywood? Is there a limit to the size of model that can use this stuff? Has anyone broken such a frame during construction? In considering future laser-cutting, I am considering sourcing and using this material. What do you think? 4. Greetings, I have come across a very interesting product that I am going to use for a project at the Modeller's Workshop. This product, Renshape, a high-density foam, is excellent for scratch-building parts and making molds. However, it comes in large sections and is quite expensive. I am considering buying some of this stuff and cutting it into small pieces so model-builders can use it. Please let me know if you are interested. If there is enough interest, I will start selling the stuff on my website, in small pieces. Best Regards, Rick Shousha Modeller's Workshop Montreal
