I soldered the handles to the swivel guns.  The "helping hands" worked great to hold the parts together.  I used paste solder and a micro torch.  They need to be cleaned up and blackened.  I'm working on the mounting brackets now.

    Hey Mark,
Well maybe I should call you laser man. Your getting pretty handy with that thing. She is coming along nicely Chief!!!

I re lined off the hull with art tape. Does anybody know of any clear tape that can be drawn on with a pencil and is 3" wide? The stuff I used for my first plank required me to use a thick sharply, and the plank looks squiggly. Obviously, I'm not going to use that plank. The French curve helps you connect the points in a curve for the plank, and helps when cutting it out. I also had to redo my strake math. I double checked the plans and the planks are 12" at midship, or 1/8" at my scale. I am to have 15 strakes, with the garboard being a bit wider than the other planks. Also, thanks for the pointer Mike, I double checked and adjusted the stern, so it should be good now. I guess I will be held up here until I can find and buy some other tape . Anyway, here are some pictures.

Thanks for any tips and advice! Until next time!

I tried string one last time. Please tell me how it looks! If this time it isn't right, I will find a way to get some art or graphing tape. Thanks in advance!

The last one shows how strakes would lay at the bow, based on my lining off of the hull.

I tried string again. It didn't work out well. I guess it's time to try card stock!

The string should be where the pencil is pointing.

Does anybody know some good sources of art tape? I need it for lining off the hull. I tried string, and it was a little awkward to work with.

Any suggestions are welcome! I'm still thinking about carving down the bulwarks. Hmmm…

Thanks for all the compliments guys, much appreciated! I have been cleaning up my workspace in preparation for new stages in my build. My workshop feels 4 times bigger ! Back to the ship!

    Until next time!
P.s. The second hull is lent to me so I can get an idea as to how my ship should look.

The sternpost is installed, and the outer bulwarks are shaped. Next is deck shaping and inner bulwark shaping! After that, planking!

Back to work! Until next time!

The keel and sternpost are being installed. The sternpost was already installed, but the keel is glueing. The last thing to glue is the stempost. Maybe I will be able to glue it Wednesday. I guess it is time to start the rudder, deck carving, bulwark thinning, and planking!

    Until next time!

I finished the stempost! Now to the keel and sternpost!

Until next time! Sometime soon hopefully!

Aaaaaaannnnnd, Tada! I did it! Finally! That took a while! Wow, that's probably the largest single step in the build so far! I accidently made the area to support the keel and sternpost a but too thin, but I will fix that after I fit the keel on. That way it will be flush with the hull. I have a little more sanding to do on the stem post before it is done. After the keel installation is deck carving, as well as the indent in the bulwarks. Then probably scupper carving, bowsprit slot, and hull planking! I have a lot to do!

Before anything else, bedtime! Until next time!

I'm back! I will attempt to catch up with all of your builds tomorrow! I cut out all the other templates, and took a brake from sanding to start construction of the keel. I also redrew the very much faded centerline. I started with the stem. You can see from the pictures, it is now glueing. Now that it is glueing, it is back to sanding !

The pictures were from my iPad, as it is near my bedtime. Until next time!

I just came to realize something. Uh oh… I'm sure that's what your thinking . It appears that, though the hull length template was incorrect, the one supplied in the kit, the others were right. I guess I wasted time and gained experience .

I may also be using this camera sometime soon.

    Now, back to work!

More progress tonight! I got rid of the bumps, and sanded down areas needing it. I also marked areas needing filling, as you can probably see . Your comments and criticisms really push me to do my best, so thank you. Also, thank you Kurt and Mary for extending my NRG membership with the junior membership! When this model is finished, in a long time, I will have you guys to thank! Anyway, here are the pictures, I almost forgot!

This one below puzzled me. I finally got the idea to use the side profile to get the depth of the base for the keel!

    Until next time!

Hi all! Tonight's progress is below. I have the first four station lines to their approximate shape, on the starboard side. I will admit, there are a couple bumps, and possibly dents, but I will sand it all smooth, or fill. Anyway, here are a couple pics, the ones that show the best angles .

Thanks for viewing! Comments and criticism are welcome! I will try to get some more work done tomorrow.
    Until next time!

I have come up with a shaping system. Work bow to stern. I have nearly finished the very end of the bow on the starboard side. I came up with this cool set up for aligning my template. I will need to fill some over sanded areas when I'm done!

Anyway, back to sanding! Until next time!

    Edit: Oops, square photos ?

Slowly but surely sanding and filling. This morning I modified one of my kit supplied blocks. It turned out better than it was before I worked with it, so that's a plus! When I get home, it's back to filling and sanding!

That last photo is my favorite side of it.

You have a long way to go before you have enough tools.  Show her a photo of my shop before I moved.
Since I am a bachelor it could have been neater.

I am currently in the process of shaping the starboard side, which is my first. I'm nervous because I don't currently have wood filler, and I can not fill areas needing filling. If you look, you can see I have a couple arrows pointing to big spots needing filling . I found out that my school has a wood shop, and I will try to take a look at it tomorrow. There is a lot of extra wood at the bow.

Sorry for all the pictures, I'm exited to be onto a new task!
Have fun with your builds! I'm trying to catch back up. Until next time!

I have finished cutting and trimming my frames ! Now onto the slightly daunting task of shaping the hull…. I'm going to try to get some wood filler tomorrow before I leave for my vacation, and I hope I can do this hull justice! But first, a good dinner, and maybe some reviewing of research.

    Wish me luck! I hope I won't need it…

Hello folks! I finished lining off the hull, at least if that is vertical lines. I found a problem with the building board, but that has been solved. It just means the starboard station lines are off by a little bit.

I also got a lot of styrene boarding. There are 5 boards of decent size.

I glued the paper hull templates to a board with some elders school glue.

I started cutting these templates out. I will give them a proper trim when I am done cutting them all.

    Until next time!

Here is where I'm at as of tonight. I've started lining off the hull, doing vertical lines first. I started with Kurt's idea, but I had another idea, based on his. I used tape to draw the lines, and will fine tune them once I have the vertical lines done. I also noticed my stern holder was a bit crooked, and I couldn't let it bee, so I took it off. I cut the glue away and re-glued it on. I will continue work when I can. Please tell me if I am doing anything incorrectly. Here are the pictures.

P.s. I've only marked these lines on the starboard side. I will mark the port side once done. Happy modeling everyone!
    Until next time!

Hello everyone! I have had a very busy couple days, and I'm going to be very busy tomorrow. I have made an attachment to the line marker that enables it to draw vertical lines. Legos can be quite handy!

    Until next time!

This morning I finished the line marker, as well as marked the waterline on the starboard side. The Legos made a perfect fit for my pencil. I can angle the pencil when needed. It's a really simple design. Here's the pictures. In some of them the board appears angled, but that's just my table.

Next up is shaping the hull, which included making styrene templates. I feel like I am actually getting some progress! Good night everyone! I also received the new Nautical Research Journal! It looks very good! Until next time!

Here are the pictures, as promised! The stern now fits nicely into the stern holder. The notch or indent was started with a sanding block, but I switched to a small file because I found it worked better.

I can now add station lines to the hull accurately, and that should help me when shaping the hull, as well as the base for the keel. I will make styrene templates for the shaping. I will try to start this process soon, starting with thinning the base for the false keel. Happy modeling to everyone!
    Until next time!
