Great job very impressive. Makes me want to restart my The President and put my Brig of 1812 ship in a bottle to the side. Again Great Job.

Brand new model ship builder here-thought this would be a good place to start.  Allow me to illustrate my credentials:
    1) I've watched the movie "Titanic"
    2) I've watched "Master and Commander"
    3) I can both spell and say the word "ship"
    4) Well, you get the idea

I've decided to make the Amati First Step Mayflower, 1:135 scale my first kit.  There are videos on YouTube of a 5 year old doing it, so it might not be too much above my pay grade. It's not too expensive, plus, there's an awfully good chance that I'm actually related to one of the original Mayflower adventurers.

See you on the high seas!

So my wife and I went away for a Christmas visit with friends. Our grandson house and dog sat. So what a surprise to come home and find my Cutty sark out of the building cradle. My granddaughter moved my work station and slightly damaged the rear spanker and bent a few spars, Quick fix and now she owes me big time. Gotta lover her shes grandpops baby ( 19 YRS old) So after fixing the minor issues I started the running rigging for the rest of the ship.

Back at it. With a day of rain I decided to start (finish) the last shroud. I had 6 ratlines to do. Finished and started the rigging.

Eyebolts installed in the channels. I used the 28 gauge wire and wrapped around 1/16" drill bit.

Stern is now complete. Just the sheaves remain.

Making progress on the gun port doors, 3 installed.
The more I have made the rabbet cuts the better I've gotten at making them.

Must have made 50+ doors to come up with 20 that I'm happy with. Not perfect, but I can live with the result.

    Finished the stern construction.
Not pleased with how the stain turned out, I'll probably need to paint it.

Planking is complete, the counter is a little bit of a mess. The rest looks OK.
We'll see how it looks after I sand it a bit.

Completed the starboard planking above the wales.
Satisfied with how the bow came out.
Generally the planning looks ok, not great.
Could have done a better job around the gun and sweep ports. I'll make a jig for the other side so that they are more evenly spaced. I guess this side will be to the back when displayed.

I have been sanding for what seems like forever.
Mostly because I'm chicken to use a courser grit sand paper.

Port sills and lintels mostly sanded at this point. A few pieces came loose and had to be glued agian.
Just need to clean up the bow a little more before moving on.

I've read in other build logs of the template not lining up, that no longer seems to be the case.
It lines up spot on for both sides.

Created a building board to keep the keel straight and glued in the rest of the bulkheads.
Filler blocks have been cut but not glued yet.
