    Just look at a wind direction indicator on a sloop. The flag streaming position is a resultant of the wind speed and boat speed vector.

    Dear Rodgerdoger. I have just sent away for this model and looked to find some hints about building the Santa Maria. Your comments and photographs, modifications to planking colour schemes are interesting. I am intrigued by the screw pins, never heard of them. I know that there are similar items used when building small aircraft. My models have been plastic but I have built a bond wood power boat and a 12m racing yacht, but now I make things in my den. The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
