No, but I want one. I have seen them used for several applications, but not as a hobby tool per-say. I would think it would work as well as a scroll saw or band saw. By the way, they have another version of this called Blade Runner that has a metal Offset blade arm that I think might be a better built unit and the price is usually $30.00 or so more than the X2 version.

Try one out and report back to us whether you like it or not.

Bit more work done on the Vic. I have most all of the sails attached to their prospective yards with all blocks installed as well. They are about ready to be installed on the mast. Was it a major pain in the %$^*(**()&$% to keep the sails seperated as to which mast they were to go on while attaching them. A few of the sails had to be resewn due to Artesania Latina sending out the wrong sails that I was missing from the kit Like the main fore sail, they actually sent me another large Main sail. But it was worth the extra bit of work to keep from having to cut out and dew all of those sails. What a time savings.

here is a few more updated pics of the Vic with gun port covers installed. I still have a few more standing riggin lines to affix and rig, but I took a break from that and started dressing the yards with foot rope brackets and other attachments. Then I will affix the sails to them so that they will be ready when I get around to starting the running rigging.

I used some of the wood from the REAL HMS Victory that I received from England to fashion a couple of anchor collars. You can still see and smell some of the tar that was on the wood. Cool stuff.

Well here is a progress update on the Vic. I've about completed the ratlines and most of the standing rigging and the spares have been made and awaiting sails and installation.

Hi Paul, nice of you to drop in. I know what you mean, I was questioning the paint thing as well, eventhough there are two ships I think really should be painted, which is the Connie and the Vic. But now, I'm glad I chose to paint her. I hope to have some updated photo's of my progress shortly. I have been a tad under the weather for the past couple of weeks with angina pain quite a bit and being overly tired. Hopefully, I will get back to work shortly.

Here is a picture of the display case finished putting it together. I left the paper on the acrylic until I get ready to take it to the library. The case, which was ordered through Abordage ship models and cost $870.00 and the measurements are 54" x 40" x 20" (inside measurements). It took about 6 weeks to receive from Abordage. The case is manufactured in Dominican Republic and then shipped to Abordage's Miami Florida office and then dispatched to you by UPS. It's a great case made from Mahogany and the price can't be beat as long as you can wait for the 6-8 week construction and ship time.

The display case arrived this afternoon. The UPS driver said it was one of the biggest packages that he had ever delivered to a residence at 128 pounds. I told him that it was a display case for a ship model, he replied "Dude, 128 pounds, that must be one heck of a model". Upon inspection, I would guess that at least 30 pounds of the 128 pounds will end up being packaging because it is packages very well. Here is a picture of how I received it with a yard stick in front of it.

Here are a few pictures of the display case that I'm having built by Abordage of Miami Florida. They had the best price for a display case that uses 4.5mm plexi (the biggest they offer) and framed with solid hand rubbed mahogany frames and base for a tad under $1000.00 shipped. It comes in a kit form and must be put together. I will do a little build log on the display case with my review also when I receive the kit. The only drawback I see so far is they quote you a time frame of six to eight weeks for delivery and so far it's spot on, I just received the tracking number from Abordage yesterday, which was at the end of the sixth week.

I have been working on the hammock stays and found that I have to cut a groove into the railings in order to mount them securely since the hammock stays that were sent to me by Artesania Latina weren't the supplied etched plate, but loose hammock stays sold individually. I cut the bottom corners off of the hammock stays, which helped them fit into the groove better. They also only sent me three sizes and I believe there are about 4-5 sizes shown in the manual. It's not that big of a deal except for the rear railings in front of the stern castle, there is like 4 different sizes shown just to get that slope correctly. So I will have to use the largest stays, cut off the posts and drill small holes the same width as the normal stays and cut the posts once I gauge the height properly. Thanks Latina for throwing that little curve ball in there.

Well I have the display case on order from Abordage total on the 55 X 40 X 20 (inside measurements) with plexi and mahogany base and frame is like $870.00. I also ordered and received the special name plate from North Country Trophies in WI. total on this was $6.00 for the two inch X four inch brass engraved plate. I will also include a nice binder along with the model and display case, which will give a bio of the real Victory as well as a sequence of events while building the model as well as a list of people and companies that I have dealt with during the build of this model as honorable mention. The name plate is stunning.

I've been a bit busy with the model for the past few days and here is my progress so far. I'm hoping to start the rigging within the next month or so and if that is the case, I better step on it because there is still a lot to do.

I used some of the HMS Victory wood from the real ship that I received from England to fashion the bitts and the anchor davits from. These will be left natural to show the beauty of the wood. I hope to use more of the wood from the real Victory ship on other parts of the model, but it is VERY brittle and dry.

I use the riveting tool on the copper side of the tape and run it along each edge of the tape before installing. I will pull 10 feet or so of the copper tape from the spool as I mark it with the tool. Then I lay the tape strips in full length layers on the hull in one solid piece if possible. Then I come back with a pencil and mark the tape and then score it with a hobby knife to indicate individual plates. It saves a ton of time compared to cutting the tape into individual plates and then installing. Start at the waterline and work your way down towards the keel. The rudder itself is plated the same, but with much smaller copper tape strips and is done before mounting to the model. I try to line up the copper plates on the rudder to the copper strips on the hull as best I can to give it more of a pleasing appearance. I have it mounted to the board so this was about the best that I could do.

Something isn't quite right with the transom decoration for the top section of the stern. As you can see from the picture, mine has a flame on the left section where a British flag should be represented. So either I have an old version of this kit or a newer version or they mistakenly put in the wrong transom decoration. I'm not sure which it is. But it's different than what the instruction manual shows.

Actually just in time Lawrence. I got a little progress done on her like installing the brows over the gun ports, the scroll work on the stem and haws holes, cannon door holes drilled and starting to install the yellow plastic windows. Yep, super glue WILL NOT work for the plastic windows, it will bloom badly and turn the plastic a white color and not just where you put the glue either, the bloom will spread like a cancer. So tip of the day, use a glue that will dry clear. I found this cheap Walmart brand contact cement works quite well on the plastic as well as wood parts as long as you stick the parts together first and then pull them apart, wait for 5-10 minutes and then stick the parts back together.

I questioned the application of the window plastic being applied to the outside of the windows rather than the inside, which would have given them more of a resest look. But only time will tell on this. I have seen the finished model built the way Latina intended and it looks good. So who am I to question the reasons why.

I finally got the gun ports stripped of all the old lining and then painted and reinstalled the RED lining around the gun ports. I think it highlights the gun ports and makes them stand out better. I had to buy additional wood for this because the kit can with just the right amount to line them once and that was about it. Now, the real Victory gun ports aren't painted red around them and the yellow goes all the way up to the edge of the gun ports. But I like the results of the red better.

I finally received the Hammock Stays and the large Main sail for the Victory today. My faith has been restored in Artesania Latina. So I hope I have everything needed to complete her, if not, I will cross that bridge when I get there. So all in all it took about 5-6 weeks to get the parts from them.
