foxy got a reaction from popeye the sailor in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Been experimenting with diff size rope/thread to make loops. There are lots of these loop rings.
The smallest rope from Syren seems to be the ticket here.
Needing two each end of the sprityard made me think on this problem.
Just tied around a pin and glued, once set it holds its shape and you just fix to the yard etc.
Will need loads of these later in the build.

Well moved on a touch with the blocks etc.
As promised have cleaned up and added blocks to the lookout tops, not sure if the Mizzen mast has these blocks beneath, cannot find any ref to them in my books.
But the Heller kit has three holes each side for them.
Also added the Syen double blocks to the main and fore yards.
Also added the Bluejackets white metal twin blocks.
More later.

Good to have a break keith, gives the grey cells a little peace
Well working on the siren blocks still, with the main and foremast .
First its the Jeer blocks =, all siren products for this part.
Two and three hole config.
Then its the two and one hole blocks that hang underneath the tops.
Some cleaning up to do later.

Ok back on board again.
Having gathered some very fine blocks etc.
These from Syren models.
Plus working in a new location,(warmer as winter comes), so all these items will keep me busy over the festive season.
The parts on the right are white metal from Blue Jacket, have roped all 16 for later fixing to the spars.
Working on the figures too.
These are a very nice addition and are in kit form, will bee needing a few of these later.
They are again from Syren models, and with a little care can be made to work.

Well in two weeks time I am off for a vac as you Americans call it.
But in the meantime I have started on some of the figures for this and another ship.
There is a very limited amount of postures in the figures for naval ships in this scale.
So it means a few(many) amputations.
Here are just a few, with an American officer(the one I use in many pictures so far), Capt Hardy(still needs his hat sorting.
Seven marines, one drummer and a marine officer plus many more alterations.
What you see is only a fraction of what's needed for this and another ship.
I guess by the American officer is a clue.
Back soon, foxy

Thanks Keith mate.
Will be warmer and good to meet friends.
Plus can pick up some Syren products while I am there.
Had them sent to one of my relations, so as to save money.
All helps.
These are some that I already have for the block/tackle for the upper/quarter decks, still another 29 to make, they work too.

Thanks Daniel shipmate.
Ok unshipped the guns from this deck(middle) added wood dowls to the base from Keiths suggestion for secure fitting.
Drilled and glued inplace.
Next its a test fit of the upper deck, all seems well.
still some work on the stern, but want to finish up to the quarterdeck before finishing the outer hull properly.
Atmospheric view.
Having a break for my trip to the US, so more soon folks.

Hi Keith shipmate.
Yep she is coming along.
The table and chairs up and in use.
The round one is for ether the Captains or Admirals quarters, maybe have to make two.
Fixing cannons and not knocking them off the decks I see is a problem, well with the ropes plus sanding off the base of the truck wheels might help with fixing to the decks.
Brass added to give better strength on the bowsprit. For the rope/blocks later.
With wood and brass and lots of advice, this should work well.

Thanks Keith and Jan.
Well not quite yet Jan.
Lots to do yet.
Swab the deck , plenty for the carpenter to be getting on with.
The mast I test fit all the time, to make sure all is ship shape as I go along.
Using shot for fishing for the shot garlands, sliced in half.
Water buckets.
Table and chairs for the officers quarters.

Thanks folks for all your inspiration and advice, it all helps and appreciated
Next its some of the boats I will be using on this build.
These are models that will need a lot of work.
Also working on the entrance ports, these are Dafi's resin one's.
Lovely detail they are, painted with life color base and brass .
Next an overall picture of the middle deck so far.
Test fitting the masts at each stage.
More soon.

Got carried away from my last post and missed showing some pictures.
Made up the soup tray's that hang around the stove, plus a kettle(very Important)
The Brody Stove near finished, you can see the fire in the grates here, plus the kettle hanging above the fire grate.
from the stern of the stove is were the hot water from the two water tanks above were vented.
Next shows the stove and pantry as it should look.
Also at this time I took a look at the side galleys, added the floor and seats of rest.
More soon.

Right the crunch time has come, thanks to Daniel for sending me some pictures of this Body stove that made sense.
I took the plunge and had a go.
First using plastic card I made a basic shape.
Then added varies Brass/plastic fittings to this structure.
The main structure was Balsa and plastic, but for strength brass was needed at this scale.
Was quite pleased with the overall shape, but had to delve in my spare's box's for items attaining to this build.
So a base was made and scribed/painted.
Test fit with other parts of the ship.
Then it was down to a spot of paint to bring all to life.
First a primer from a can.
Last was a figure to show all was well.
Next will be all the detail to bring it to a conclusion.

Right well checking the number of ladders needed and found I was a few short, Heller had sent me some replacements but still not enuff.
So it was to wood I turned again.
Used Heller ladder as a template.
The finished article's
Used life color paints for this job, three in all.
Next came the buildings for this deck, the gallery, brody stove, officers quarters and cover for the tiller, that could be lifted off in an emergency to add another tiller arm.
First though its the gallery.
I used some etch from my model railroad day's, when I built loco's etc.
Plastic and brass for the main structure and wood for the top of the bench.
Have books that show the gallery and this made it a lot easier.
At the top of the picture is the start of the officers quarter's, below the start of the gallery.
Framed the outside with thin plastic strips(evergreen).
Made some pots, bottles etc for the top bench and lockers.
The officer figure is scratch built from one of the USS Constitution people, with a new hat and sword/belt.
More soon methinks.

Thank E kindly dragzz
Some more progress with the lower deck buttoned up.
One other thing I have been playing around with is the port hatch ropes.
Instead of drilling lots of holes, I hope to attach with plastic to the hull.
Experimenting.
foxy
Some more pictures of the middle deck now.
Added the deck and yes the planking is wrong but did it the same time as the lower deck, Next deck will have the right space's.
Added deck hatch's steps to lower deck and capstans, main and jeer.
Also at this time the stern rear windows, this so all will sit right.
Still to finish the crown, leaving it till later so as no damage comes to it.

Thanks Frank, Mark.
Yes the stove was fun to work out and thats half the fun, ain't it.
Well moved on a tad with the overhanging shrouds(futtocks).
Used a small piece of brass rod and Dafis etched parts.
So as not to bore you I will finish this side and the other before more pictures.
Frank.

Hi Ronald.
The photo etch comes from Dafis wonderful etched sets.
If you contact him I am sure he will help you.
Just hit on his sig and send a message.
As for the wood deck, well its 2mm and 3mm I used and came from Cornwall model boats.
Just type this in and you should be able to find there site.
I used maple wood for this build.
Moving on with the stay's done for standing rigging its time for the ratlines to be done.
I thought in this scale that if I tied them it would be oversize.
So the simple way seemed the best.
Just glue to the shrouds.
To save time and glue I did all the shrouds with three rows, then left to dry and cut off the excess.
This is time consuming but it works!!!.
One other thing I did was to move the Anchor rest forward between the first two chains, this allowed the anchor to sit right later.

Cheers for that Daniel, well can remove ok and will add your version.
Well its Organised Chaos at the moment with one side of the stay ropes done.
For the blocks I am using Syren 3mm and 2mm for the lesser ropes, with Dafis eyelets already positioned.
The main top.
Running down to the channel.
Some of the chaos on the deck.
The shrouds on the top masts are run through the top and left loose at the moment.
The tuther side is next with the blocks made up, so should be faster.
Frank.

foxy got a reaction from etubino in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Thanks very much Lawrence, much better now thanks .
Well have been busy of late with all the top ropes strung.
Left loose till main stay ropes have passed over mast/shroud.
Then tightened up.
With the main stay ropes in place.
One point is the main stay ropes to the bowsprit.
As all know they pass through the bowsprit and then attach to block and tackle.
For those doing this build, its advisable to add the blocks near the knights head before adding the netting and booms.
This will be a lot easier.
The blocks I used for this were of Syren manufacture and can move if ness.
Next its the stay ropes from masts to channels etc.
This is the sequence I am following for this static build.
Having good plans of the rigging helps, so far its standing rigging I am working on.
Thanks guys for all your imput and likes.
All the best Frank.

Thanks shipmates.
Yep flying is the word, just enjoying this build so much, with the use of wood has changed the whole concept of this build.
Thought only of plastic/Resin and brass, now wood.
Have managed to change all spars to wood or brass, this should make all stronger.
the work so far.

foxy got a reaction from popeye the sailor in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Next its back to the wood instead of plastic.
This time the boom gaff.
Kept the plastic mast end as it will be strong enuff with a brass pin holding both the plastic and wood.
The end tip I added a brass ring.
Next its a test fit of the middle deck, this comes in two parts witch will make it easier to file the outer ends to fit and line up with the masts/capstans and grating.
More soon
