NMBROOK reacted to Bill Hime in Artesania Latina HMS Surprise 1:48 DeAgostini/Model Space vs Artesania Latina HMS Surprise 1:48 Age of Sail????
Mark, Nigel,
Thanks guys! That extra cash could buy a Byrne's table saw and/or thickness sander . I will say that sounds a little concerning not having paper plans?!
This is the scale I'm really interested in and of course the HMS Surprise is one of my favorite
Bill

NMBROOK got a reaction from Bill Hime in Artesania Latina HMS Surprise 1:48 DeAgostini/Model Space vs Artesania Latina HMS Surprise 1:48 Age of Sail????
Hi Bill
They are both exactly the same!!! HMS Surprise was never offered as a proper weekly partwork in the UK,so I very much doubt it will be any different for the US.Save yourself a heap of cash my friend and go with Age of Sail.Only downside to both depending on your opinion,no paper plans, the model only comes with an instructional CD for the computer. However the kit can be built into both a large and well detailed model.
Kind Regards
Nigel

Hi there,

channel and the chain plates.
The sample section is now complete.
The now proven details I build further on the overall model.

Hi Grant,
I appreciate your kind words.
... and so it goes on:
The reinforcement (flat iron) for the supporting knee I made out of brass sheet 0.2 mm.
The support of the channel (round iron bars) was made of brass wire with a diameter of 0.9 mm.
The second attempt for a support for the channel can be seen in the picture. This is made of a round brass bar having a diameter of 1.5 mm. This is too massive, unrealistic.
In the next step, these pieces are browned and then mounted.

Hello,
the question relating to the mounting of the gun port lids I could now finally clarify with the help of a forum colleagues.
In the painting of Horace Vernet is clearly at the bottom gun port lid a hook recognizable as such (yellow arrow).
Furthermore, in the Monograph La Creole 1827 by J. Boudriot on page 96 can be found, that the upper lid with 4 hooks has been fixed.
So there were a total of six hooks for attachment to a gun port.
This was implemented by me immediately at the battle station.
In addition, 48 hook with eyelet for the model I have to make.

Hello friends,
today I will show you how to attach the upper gunports cover with hook and eyelet.
For this detail I have researched long. I hope this is the correct version.
The difficulty was to bend the small hook with eyelet from 0.3 mm brass wire.
This detail must now be implemented in the model.
Here are the corresponding images:

Hello Karl,
thanks for your nice comment.
It continues with the production of hammocks cranes.
The sheet brass is 0.2 mm thick. The required strips of 1 mm width I sawed with a circular saw. By bonding the sheet to a plywood underlay you get very precise strips.
The bending of the eyelets I made with a prepared plier.
38 holders are to be made.

Hello,
I treat today making the shot garlands.
A total of 140 cannonballs were stowed on the La Creole.
Of these, 122 for the carronades and 18 for the cannon.
As cannonballs I use balls of ball bearings
These balls were burnished.

Hello,
today I show you the carronade with a served rope.
The protection of the breeching was made of a coated paper handkerchief.
It has a tarred look.

Hello,
for the time I am working on a section model in 1:48 scale.
This model is used to try out different details.
In addition to stowing the hammocks and the rigging of the carronades is to be examined in more detail.

Hello,
an error has happened to me.
The la creole also has 4 cannons.
Here the passages of the cannon mouths of the gun-ports lid are smaller as for the carronades.
Then unfortunately I have not been paying attention.
The bore of the gun barrel I have now made too large.
So I have to make this again.

Thanks all!
Meanwhile, all gunports lids were fitted into the ports.
Only the last pair is still to be finished. They are for the gun port in the bow on the port side.
This gun port is a special case, because of the rounding of the bow.
The fit of this cover halves at this place requires special attention.
This couple also receives a dropfront as a protection against the armature.
