  1. Hi Vitus,

Thanks for dropping by as well as the good word :)  For the second planking I first established the level of the main wale using three planks, these are the only untapered planks, all the planks immediately below the wale were tapered at the front so as to prevent crowding and the need for drop planks. Because the planks were only 4mm wide bit of edge bending was done at the front in lieu of spilling so as to allow the planks to follow the shape of the preceding plank and avoid clinkering.

  2. Don't be too hard on yourself, Peter, you're doing an excellent job on your Pegasus, and she's coming along beautifully :)

That stern lantern you added is a real treat, I'm also leaning towards following your example because the contemporary model of Atalanta shows a similar set up as yours. Thanks very much for your tip on using Caldercraft's tops lantern for replicating this neat detail B)

  3. Excellent work on the pre-cut gunport ply, Vitus, as B.E. has said, this is one of the more challenging portions of the build, and you've managed it beautifully as evidenced by that smooth tumble home, those bulkhead screens you've made also spruce her up very nicely, keep up the good work :)

Just a small note, if I may: those bulkhead extensions can be a bit fragile and prone to crack during hull planking; You may want to add some support by temporarily taping the kit's deck beams as seen below:

  4. Hello Gunslinger,

Welcome to the ship modelling world, you've chosen a nice kit as your first build, the Badger will build nicely out of the box, and with some modifications, can turn out into a mighty fine brig. As you've noticed, the timber can be a bit of a disappointment and if you wish to build her mostly in natural wood, then using some exotic woods like those from Hobbymill would be of great benefit (something I should have done when I was still building her). On the other hand, if you plan to give her a paint scheme, then the walnut planks should do just fine. Good luck on your build, take your time and most importantly, have fun :)
