A little quiz : There is a great error on one of the two pics of my prevent message Could you find it ? 😀

I made two pics of sails, after Madrid Museum (up) and Pastore (down) : only difference I've found, a little horizontal mast behind stern
-
Two pics of bottom block : Wheels size 1/48 = 5 x 1.6 mm, at real size 1/1 = 24 x 8 cm (rope about 1.5 mm)

Thanks Louie da fly 😀 A french expert told me that the lower block was around 1480 an archaic block articulated on a cringle (Halyard knights arrive later) I would add that a large 600 kg antenna requires four reals, even using a capstan, otherwise, hoisting would be difficult Three reals is good for the misain mast, not for the main mast Finally, the pulley followed the inclination of the mast, (8° on the Niña), that is the reason why it was articulated Later, the halyard knights followed the same angle as the mast. (Otherwise, they would break quickly) I think that such a disposition prevented the problem of twisting rope you met on your referenced model Regards, Christian

Today, my two fast simulations : I should prefer the built number 2 for better transverse stability - And you ? Thanks, dear modellers 🙂

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
