and finally how she looks today.

so here goes my first build log of my fi rst model sh ip, most of the photos are from when i started a couple of years ago up to current and i will continue to post progress. hope thats ok

Hi Ryland thanks, i have a pic of the bow, which shows her as being fairly straight and true, the roundhouses and decorations were a challenge.im reasonably happy with the result. should i be posting pics here or should i start a thread elsewhere?

Hi mtaylor thanks for the welcome, to be honest i do find myself staring at the model alot, this hobby gives such sense of achievement, there are parts that i wish i had done better but my intent is to carry that over to other projects, so even though there are faults the Victory is my first love lol, i have seen many youtube videos of builds that i am just amazed at the level of detail and accuracy. i have been looking at build diaries on here and the skill level is so good, i must be like a leech and absorb it all. all the best Andre

thanks Ronald, yes mine is copper painted, i will add some more coats of admiral {real} copper paint when it arrives, it will patina like real copper then, i think copper plating looks awesome but didnt want to bite off more than i could chew so to speak. I hope i was some assistance, its good to know that there are other like minded people to chat to when in doubt, best of luck with your build she is coming along nicely

maybe measure each side from the first plank to the outside edge of the false keel and divide by 7 which will give you how much to taper each plank, obviously the last plank each side will end at the start of the false keel so you can fit the back of the perm keel and rudder, god i hope that makes some sense.

Hi Ronald, here is a pic of my victory stern, as you can see alot of the original planking gets covered by details and paint, i cant tell if i have the 8 planks that Alan described to you although it looks about right. I can see what you mean, it looks like you have 5 planks on the left and 4 on the right. Are the planks fairly level on each side of the ship? if so i would taper slightly more on one side at the stern to even the gap, as you can see on my photo you wont see it on the model once sanded and painted, if your keeping it a natural wood finish then i guess its more critical, im fairly inexperienced to other guys on here so they might have a different view.

hi hoocat, thanks thats very kind of you, and thankyou for the welcome, its a  very addictive hobby, i did have a go at a mantua "golden star" before the victory and really messed up the planking so i really am a beginner, but i have a much better understanding of whats required now.I would like to tour norfolk shipyard one day, i always fancied visiting the southern states.

Hi Everyone my names Andre im from Portsmouth uk, i am very much new to model ship building, im enjoying the ups and downs of constructing my hms victory, this is a Deagostini kit that i got very cheap on Ebay that someone started the planking and abandoned it. I threw away that effort, replaced the false keel and ribs and started again. i have enclosed a picture of my progress so far after 2 years work on and off[ due to covid i had more time to spend on her] I also have an occre Montanes and AL Hermione and a del prado bounty to build so dry dock is quite full, although i dont know if i will get to the del prado model, the parts look fairly poor and again i got from ebay from a charity shop so the money went to a good cause. Anyway im cutting my teeth on the victory and learning technique and ability as i go so hopefully future models will be much improved. Thanks for accepting me into the forum, i hope i can be a productive member, cheers
