  1. Can I add to the confusion and consternation here. I bought the AL Constellation (on ebay...AL no longer makes or sells it) to use as the foundation for a build of the USS Decatur She was launched in 1840 from the New York Navy Yard. If, as I understand, the AL Constellation is at least an approximation of the 1855 Corvette I hope to have some basis for the build. And if, as everyone suggests, it would take substantial modification to accvcurately build the Constellation, I see little downside to modifying her to replicate the Decatur. But, thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. A bit of back story, the Decatur saw action in Puget Sound during the Indian wars and the Battle of Seattle. And while I am not a Washington native, I have lived her for over 45 years, most of that time along Puget Sount, my mom was born and grew up in Seattle, her father worked in the Todd Shipyards during WWII, and my father was career USN. It all touches home. One last inquiry: I have built Cook's Endeavour but would really like to do his Resolution. But I cannot find one. Suggestions appreciated. . 2. Now I'm both incensed and excited. I have been posting elsewhere herein about Ka'iimiloa, Kalakaua's naval vessel. Now I see the Journal is writing on the Hawai'ian Navy as well. Dare I say it, "great minds ..." I'll wait until my issue arrives.
  3. I ran across this discussion after just beginning my Occre Endeavour. I am getting ready to plank the deck. They still recommend "pore filling laquer" and I had no idea what that was. However, I just happen to have a couple cans of sanding sealer on hand. So, let me ask now, at what stage should I apply a finish coat to the deck? I presume it is when the sanding sealer is dry and sanded and before planking the hull and attaching the deck furniture, or should I wait until later in the build? Thank you all.
  4. I see someone already addressed my question about thread size. Thank you.
  5. I just got mine from Hobby Zone, no delay in Customs. But I have a couple of questions: Has anyone sealed the MDF? It can be a bit crumbly, especially if the screws are overtightened. I like the idea of reversing the nuts and replacing the bolts with wingnuts. But, does anyone know what thread pitch they are? I'm not excited about opening the hardware bag and walking through Home Depot and/or Ace Hardware with loose screws/nuts/bolts in my pocket. Anyway, thank you for this review and build out.
