    Thank you for sharing your progress with this ship. Beautiful work and such a pleasure to see a skilled builder at work. I was really pleased to learn that Occre had released it. I’m working on my first wooden ship kit build, Terror, at the moment but will watch with interest as this kit is certainly on my wish list as my confidence grows. Again, many thanks.

    Hello Keith and thank you for posting your work. There’s a model of Erebus at the Scott Polar Institute, too, along with artefacts from the expedition. I’m starting Terror soon and will be following your progress closely. Thanks for the tip on the Caldercraft wheels which seem to be more readily accessible in the UK. I’d noticed the disparity in the instruction’s framing diagrams too so am really grateful for your comments. Good luck with the project.

    Thank you for posting these fascinating images. I’m pretty sure those are either modernised S, or perhaps, T Class WW2 submarines. In the 1950s some were stripped back for high speed tests. They seemed to have conning towers similar to the German Type xxi boats. The conning tower.on the dock, for instance, perhaps from an earlier boat, has a roughly painted pennant number S14, which was HMS Supreme but was passed on to the Oberon class boat, HMS Onslaught, still in service when you took these. However, I think Supreme was scrapped 35 years before your visit. This is really interesting and I wish you good luck with your research. Please let us know what you find out.

    Hello everyone. My name’s Ian and I’m a 59 years old ex teacher. I’ve recently retired and I’m about to embark on my first wooden ship kit, Occre’s HMS Terror. I’ve built plastic kits since the world was young but I’m very excited to finally have the time to learn how to build something a little more challenging. I’ve always been curious about sailing ships but was very lucky to be able to do a tour of duty at Ascension Island whilst in the RAF and it was on exploring the Victorian RN infrastructure and diving the wreck of HMS Maeander that my interest in the 19th Century Royal Navy grew. My long term goal is to build a scratch model of HMS Maeander
