  1. That's correct. I had a large magnet, but it attracted the clamps and almost ripped the planking apart. So saw it was.
  2. Thank you. We have family coming in and out of town this week, so I'm afraid that the shipyard will be empty of workers for this week.
  3. The gunwales are fitted. It took some time to get them right. I hope they dry well into position. I did cut away more of the frames than I should have. As the instructions indicate the frame head irons will cover the gaps.
  4. The bands have been sanded, and the frames have been cut down for the gunwales to be installed. The port sheer plank came away from the transom, so a little re-glueing was called for.
  5. Thank you @druxey for the suggestion. I should have added more water to loosen up the plank. After a terrifying "crack sound" I was able to re-glue the plank into the correct position.
  6. Probably the most embarrassing photo yet. The false stem is in place. We can see the unevenness of the sheer planks and some warpping on the starboard bow.
  7. I didn't go back far enough on the planks. But everything is secure and I'll remember it for the next model. There is a lot more forgiveness in the build process than I anticipated.
  8. Thanks, though I see all the imperfections. But, I remember an old Navaho woman once telling me that only the gods are perfect so we must place imperfections in our art work so as not to offend them.
  9. Thanks, so far I'm having a blast.
  10. For the false stem I soaked the wood and then got creative with rubber bands and clamps to temporarily fit it. I already see that I should have done a better job at extending the rolling bevels on the planks so that they tapered into each other better.
  11. Parts of the shear planks were separated from the broad plank, so I'm re-glueing and clamping those places.
  12. And the port side plank is now glued. It went a little better than the starboard side. The rubber bands was all that was needed.
  13. This plank was a little more difficult to glue into position. I had to get a little creative at the transom.
