  1. I’m excited about resin and pumps I believe I got the right stuff for the job and should have a bit of free time to hopefully get this boat finished. Picked up pumps from the boat store because i forgot them so an excuse to go on the ferry and look at more boats
  2. Finally have the bottom almost fully planked just a couple more on the rear but my sniper snapped so I stopped. The dremel made quick work of some trimming and I’ll be filling a bit and thinking of the best way to do so in between some planks that are a bit further apart than I had hoped. I was able to pick up epoxy and will be ordering their pumps for proper mixing easy from what I’ve read today I saw three whales 2 orca and I believe a small grey whale as well as a nice little red boat on my trip to breakfast
  3. Slowly going at it picked up a dremel to help and don’t know why I had not got one before. Almost done with the hull planking and will do some sanding and filling before I start with the resin. Today I’ll be by a boat shop and plan on picking up some west marine resin and hardener but not sure if I was the slow hardener or the faster
  4. Not feeling as confident as I want to be so things are going a little slower here is some weekend progress with planking that’s not as tight as I wish and the bow roughly done before sanding. For my first time doing this I give myself a b. And I give myself a d for the shipwreck in a bottle lol
  5. No my wife and I went to Poulsbo for our anniversary getaway we are in Seattle but I like going around where we can look at boats. So many models all over that small town almost every single shop had one on display
  6. More shaping and glueing planks and really liking how it’s turning out and feel like it will shape up nicely. Learning to use the bender and soaking sticks has been fairly easy and I wish I had purchased one much earlier. So happy to be back working on it
  7. Ok finally back at this as I’ve been waiting weeks as this plank bender has traveled all over the country for the last 3-4 weeks this is making planking so much easier than how I was just forcing it how I wanted (yay learning). For now I am gluing one plank at a time per side and going back and forth while soaking and shaping the planks further down the hull. The way I have been clamping the planks in place will need to change soon and I’m not quite sure how I will be doing that so I’ll get creative with rubber bands and anything that I have. So happy to be back working on it I have felt so bad just watching it sit there while occasionally catching my cat climbing on it. Also a picture of a little regatta I watched this morning from the ferry as I was waiting for the plank bender to get delivered
  8. I’ve taken a couple weekends off of building this waiting for a plank bender now. But I have spent my weekends looking at others boats in all these small shops in Paulso and then today touring the Virginia V while it is in dry dock being repaired and learned quite a bit today. Hopefully once my plank bender gets here I will get back to work daily on this project I feel bad with it just sitting there but field trips were had
  9. Was able to get the hull roughly in but It should fair well before I do the planking. Once I finally got it all in place I did a little I got a boat dance I must say. now to bust out some filler and sanding. questioning if I should varnish the sides before glueing the planks wonderful work this weekend
  10. Time for glue to dry and be back at it tomorrow love seeing it take shape and slowly figuring this out
  11. Having fun today working sides and transom. I’m adding a basswood layer to waterproof it does not say to do this and to plank right on the frame so making a panel and copying it for the opposite side nothing is glued yet and I am still shaping and fitting together. The transom I’m doing a little different and filled the spaces in the frame and a single layer of the dark wood which I will be planking over learned that I really don’t like the smell of 5 minute epoxy when I filled in gaps from the propeller shaft and rudder shaft. started layers of varnish on the inside the other night back to it I go
  12. That took way longer than it should have now to sand and do some filling in some and I think I can move on to the transom and sides You can hardly tell I messed up lol
  13. For some reason my brain could not get this figured out easily so I tried my best and it doesn’t look super great right now but I think with some filler and sanding it will be ok. Also seeing that it isn’t perfectly symmetrical but that too won’t be too far off less than a plank width. I am also thinking of making a metal cover for the bow (or make my jeweler wife do that for me) and it would cover up some imperfections. It was a very frustrating weekend and I’m tired of this particular section but I won’t be giving up just yet. Thanks for the help
  14. I slept on it and I feel dumb I was trying to force them to go straight ahead instead of bend in to the center but if I go this direction I’ll need to fill in the blank area that is created if that makes any sense. Glad I didn’t glue further than I did and if I hate the way it looks I can just paint the bottom
