  1. HMS Pickle, Caldercraft, my interpretation

This basically good Caldercraft kit was altered in various aspects:
    - The stern was changed according to RMG's plans of the Adonis-class cutters/schooners.
    - The proportion of the rigging was changed to follow those of the proposed rigging of the Adonis-class schooners in Karl Heinz Marquarts book ‘The Global Schooner’. The masts were reduced in height and the proportions of the bowsprit altered.
    - The 19' launch was shortened into a 16' cutter and the boats placed on the centerline between the masts.
    - A full set of sails was hoisted and the rigging completed accordingly. The sails are made from fine cotton dyed in tea. The seams are drawn with a pencil and the hem glued.
    - Additional changes were made, such as the bow stretched a bit, a slightly different color scheme used, a new galley flue added, a second anchor added, a self painted flag hoisted etc.
The build was a bit of an adventure and a pleasure. I think that Pickle with the alterations now resembles more an Bermuda built schooner of the early 19th century.

  2. HM Bomb Vessel Granado 1756 CC kit 1:64

A few additions to the kit out of the box were made:
A boat (resin kit from caldercraft) was added. It was supposed to be stored on the mortar housing and is now being hoisted out.
A jib stay with traveller was added as well as the missing mizzen topgallant stay.
Furled sails were added. The running rigging to the sails is reduced. Only the main ropes are shown – no bunt lines, leech lines or reef tackles. They would hardly be visible anyway and I was too lazy to provide them all.
The flag is hand painted onto the same cotton as was used for the sails.
This was the most satisfying kit I built so far. Great value for money, many details and the size of the finished model is still easy to handle.

  3. Hms Pegasus, Victory models by Flyer

This Victory Models kit is of very good quality. Building this ‘miniature frigate’ was great fun.
Some amendments and improvements were made during this build (rudimentary great cabin, furled sails added, better anchors added etc.). More details are available in the build log.

  4. Yacht America by flyer - Mamoli - scale 1:66 - with some alterations

The Mamoli kit was improved with real copper plates and 2 boats. Several details, such as parts of the rigging, the sails, the rudder and its attachment or the deck planking were reworked.

A build log is also available.
