  1. Painting in progress. As a side note, I hate painting. When I do have to paint I use only Badger paints. They are water based and very thin which allows the grain to show through the wood. Reefer White Caboose Red Golden Oak minwax Stain Bob R.
  2. Completed planking and installed treenails. I used a #79 drill bit and simply used my sawdust and some white glue to fill the holes. Removed the frames and sanded, installed the cap rails and ready for paint. Bob R.
  3. I decided to plank using boxwood purchased from Jeff at Hobby Mill...he is the best! Bob R.
  4. Sorry I fell behind in reposting. Still working on posting my Constitution build. Anyway, this is my Model Shipways 18th Century Longboat which is being built as part of our San Diego Ship Modelers' Guild Community Build. There are currently 8 members building the longboat which we started in October 2012. Bob R.
  5. Cheek knees constructed and installed port and starboard side. Painted black and trimmed with styrene. Bob R.
  6. Thanks for the information Bob. There seem to be quite a few folks building Constitution. Bob R.
  7. Continued with transom trim. I had the chance to use a bit of actual Constitution in the base of the towing bridals. Ships name plate installed. Transom complete. Bob R.
  8. Built the stern gallery's, painted the hull, installed the windows and gallery trim and started preparing the transom for details. I found that the Badger Brand of paint worked best for me. Very thin and goes on smooth. Bob R.
  9. Completed planking, installing and rivetting upper bulwarks. Planked the transom counter and installed the base of the galleries. Bob R.
  10. Started installing the cap rails. Got some nice boxwood from Jeff Hayes. I wanted a harder wood to make the groove details in the rails. Once the rails were installed, upper bulwark was planked, riveted, and painted. Bob R.
  11. Completed deck planking and applied stain. The stain was a mixture of black and brown paint applied as a wipe. Once the deck was complete it was time to install the bulwark rivets. The rivets were purchased from the Tichy Train Group and are .035". Each rivet hole was individually drilled using a #77 Drill Bit (actually, about 20 drill bits). Bulwarks were then painted that distictive Constitution green. Bob R.
  12. Thanks Jim. Here I have planked the transom and stepped the masts along with making the hatch frames. I ordered Swiss Pear from Jeff at Hobby Mill to manufacture the hatches. Top quality stuff as always from Jeff. Bob R.
  13. Thanks David but remember these are old pictures. You will see the progression of clutter along with the progression of Connie. Bob R.
