Wow, excellent work. Building in such a small scale really takes skill. Above my grade for sure.

Vince,I was given the Sovereign kit without a complete set of plans. Are they available ,especially the rigging and deck plans?Would appreciate any help.
Hi Jack,
You didn't say what version of the kit you have. It has been around for over 35 years and there are several versions out there. The very latest version was redone in 2008. If you have laser cut parts including the gunport templates, it is probably the newest version.
The instruction booklet for the new version is available free from Mantua. Go to: www.mantuamodelhelp.com and you can down load the whole manual plus the part number templates for all of the laser cut plywood sheets. I had made 2 extra sets of plans, but gave both away on this forum to other modelers who needed them. There should be 9 sheets of plans labeled "2008". You could try contacting Mantua, but good luck because they do not ever answer requests. I would try "Ages of Sail" out of California. They are the main Mantua distributor in the USA and they can get most anything related to Mantua,
I did not use the plans at all for the rigging since they are very limited and not authentic. I used several rigging books that dealt with the real SOS and a few excellent websites that show detailed photos of museum quality builds of the SOS. A builder named "Doris" has a gallery here on MSW on her build which is as good as it gets. She can supply dozens of photos of the SOS with realistic rigging for both the ship with and without sails.
When you are ready, I can supply you with the website addresses and the names of the rigging books I used.
Good Luck,
Vince

Very nice work. Intricate detail at its finest.

Thanks. I had about 2-1/2 years into her with an average of about 2-3 hours per day. That does not include the amount of time spent on research which amounts to several hundred hours.

Hi Doris,
How can I get some closeup and brighter photos. Your ship is fabulous. Since I am building this one too, I could really use your expertise. I am particularly interested in the rigging. Yours is the most complete and original I have seen anywhere.

Hi Doris,
Simply magnificant! I am working on an SOS kit. What scale is your ship? Also, where did you get the rigging diagrams. Your model seems to have the most realistic rigging plan I have seen.

Very nice. I think a model with sails looks so much more authentic.
