Bullseye blocks ?

What and where are bullseye blocks used? Have been gift'd many and none of my ship modeling books give any help.

Bullseyes are not really blocks as such. They are circular 'doughnuts' of wood to lead lines fairly though. The circumference has a groove for the bullseye to be lashed to a relevant point such as inside a shroud.

If they are old they are likely made of Lignum Vitae, the hardest known wood. Now considered an endangered species of tree and I think its been replaced with other materials for that reason. If they are Lignum Vitae they should sink in water due to the woods amazing density.

Druxey thank you for the information. I spent some of my youth at Niagra on the Lake on a cousins peach orchard.

 

Jersey City Frankie the bullseyes are scale models of the real ones.....(They float)

 

I was very lucky to be gifted a qty. of Ship modeling "STUFF" tools, books, parts,plans,paint,old kits,etc.

My wife mentioned that I was starting to model ships and one of her friends offered her late husbands modeling stuff to me.
