Just received the Occre Albatros kit along with the Occre (5 pc. set) paint package for this kit and after reviewing the contents, I have some very basic questions and comments.

1)  Why does my (5 pc. set) paint package have 9 bottles?   (not really a question just a comment)

2) On the color chart why do the reference numbers for the Albatros not match the reference numbers on the bottles?  Color names are correct though.

3) One of the smaller bottles is primer.  Is that needed for everything that is to be painted or only the metal castings?

4)  When looking at the kits parts list there are many part numbers for what I presume is the same part. For example, they have a .06 x 5 sycamore planks listed with many different lengths for the decking.  Why list different lengths when the kit contains all these planks of the same length?  Would make it very difficult to count and verify you have all the parts.  Of course, it would be very tedious to count all of the parts in these kits.  (Hmm, let's see, 6098 nail brads, there should have been 7000.  I've been cheated.)

Overall, the kit looks fantastic and I'm eager to get started. I have to finish current project first or the Admiral will get mad. I am sure I will have some real questions once I get started. Thanks for putting up with this post.

Lots of kits (Vanguard Models being the possible exception) seem to have some disconnect between instructions and what’s supplied in the kit. (My only experience is with Vanguard, Model Shipways, and Midwest.) I’ve found mistakes, drawings of part sheets that don’t match what’s supplied, etc. A challenge when first starting. You get used to it. Really experienced modelers don’t pay much attention to written instructions. I don’t know how long this kit has been on the market, but some go back decades - the instructions often remain the same but the parts change. My current Scow Schooner was reissued recently but the instructions are largely unchanged from the original - they reference a discontinued paint line and quaintly advise the modeler to talk with their local hobby/model store.

On the paint, I’d guess that Occre paints come in two sizes, so they doubled up with smaller bottles.

About the paint, there are 2 stain colors, a primer, a bottle of varnish, and 5 different  paint colors. I just thought it funny that the package said 5 PC set. On the part list, for the decking, I believe they list a different part number for each use of the decking planks. The main deck gets one part number for longer planks, the upper deck gets another for shorter ones, etc. I just think it's strange.  I can imagine someone looking for a piece of deck planking a certain length when they are all the same length. Or what if they assigned a different part number for each time a deadeye is called for. Oh well, it is what it is.
