So while my Bounty boat's fittings arrive, I'm getting started on my next build - the Artesania Latina Virginia Schooner. My main goal with this (my second build) is to do the planking well - ideally the 'correct' way rather than the instructions' method. Fortunately, this model will also be painted so I can hide mistakes if when they occur.

(I'll likely refer to this vessel as a ship throughout the log despite it obviously being a schooner)

First step was the framing. I am fairly proud of my idea to 3D print some blocks that I could clamp to each bulkhead to make them be almost perfectly square. (You can see some in the background on the right of this picture.

... and the deck (subdeck) is attached

I expect tomorrow we'll start planning out the planking.

Day 2: I managed to shape and glue down the deck planking. No time to cut it to shape though, so for now it looks... interesting.

I made sure to mark where the holes for the masts were on the subdeck sheet as I had a lot of difficulties with that on my HMS Victory cross-section when I lost the paper template for cutting out those holes.

Hi Stormaple,

I have already completed mine, so please let me know if I can be of any help.

If you are working on the latest kit — the same one I built — the overall assembly is fairly straightforward. You may run into a few issues with the laser-cut parts, especially with the distribution of the stanchions at the stern, but nothing significant.

One practical recommendation: since you will need to work on the hull, I suggest reviewing section 9, steps 1 to 3 of the instructions in advance. You have to cut the wale in order to install the chainwales; in my opinion this should be done before painting the hull.

P.S. As usual, I apologize if my English terminology is not entirely correct — I am still learning the proper terms.
