Here's my very first kit, received for my wedding anniversary in June 2024. I'm making slow but steady progress, as with four children I don't always find the time to work on it.

 

My project: to transform this pirate galleon into something a bit more weathered and ghostly, without going so far as to create a floating wreck.

 

So I'm not following the original color scheme; I'm experimenting, and some pieces will be replaced because I find them unsuitable.

I've included some photos of the progress from the beginning to now, and I'll keep you updated!

I welcome all your messages and advice.

 

 

I wanted the deck to look worn and more attractive than what was offered in the kit. This immediately added a lot of work for me!

 

The same goes for the planks; a wood that was too brown would have looked too clean, so I chose to blacken it with India ink.

 

I added lines to the interior walls and also used India ink.

 

The most dreaded step: assembling the hull!

For a first attempt, I didn't do too badly!

 

For the planks, here is the difference before and after using India ink.

 

The rudder was a bit of a challenge to assemble.

 

 

I'm now at the stage of installing the railings on the boat. The official OcRre video mentions 5mm wood, but the kit actually calls for 7mm wood. The edges are currently 4mm thick, so I'm not sure how to position them. Should I center them and leave 1.5mm on each side? Or should I leave 1mm on the inside and 2mm on the outside?

What do you think?

That info should be available on the plans somewhere, but if it isn't, then yes there should be some overhang on both sides.

It isn't because I think they change the size of it since they made the pictures in the plans. In the video also : it is not the same essence of wood and not the same width as in the plans metrics. 

 

For me it was better smaller but if I cut the wood it will not me even because I don't have the tools to transform a 7mm width wood to a 6 or 5mm width wood.

 

Thank you for your response, I will at least make the borders more round.
