Weathering Deck Planks

I am to start a my build of the HMS Victory 1/72 scale (JoTika). I'm  interest to know if anyone has any tips on how to add a weathering effect to the deck planks so I try out on some test pieces before I start the build in earnest?

Model Railway enthusiasts have methods for weathering wood on their layouts. You can find weathering solutions at MicroMark and probably some other model railroad sites.

I have found more information on this web site in a older topic and an another web site.

 

I think I will try soaking wire wool in vinegar for 24 hours mix with either water or tea to see what gives the best effect.

The weathering solution works fine, just be careful not to let it soak in to much as it will get more of a grey-ash coloring.

I bought my bottle at a rail model store.

But yes, try before using it on the entire deck.

Pastels in black and white can also be used to good effect. Apply with bristle brush, a cotton stick ('Q-tips') or one of those small foam brushes that are used by the ladies to apply make-up.
