Sultana - Vintage Modelshipways

1970’s Kit by Modelshipways, built out of the box.  Some blocks by Bluejacket.  Solid hull sealed with shellac/gesso.  Acrylic Paint by Vallejo applied with Paasch Talon airbrush. Hard Maple case with 3/32” SSB glass, Roman ogle edge base molding.  Case finished with Old Masters Maple Stain and Three Bees organic furniture wax.

 

Built 2 ships.  One for a friend’s mother, the kit was purchased by her husband, who passed away before starting it.  My first commission.

Gorgeous presentation of a nicely done model! It looks like it is in very good company too. I think I spot a Katy,  a brig Eagle... can't tell about the other ships in the background, but looks like one cutter rig and maybe a harbor tug of some sort?

 

Are you R.B. Fairfull then?

Thank you!  Spot on, in the background Vintage “yellow box” Modelshipways Katy pilot boat and Maine Topsail Schooner “coaster” Eagle, and Bluejacket Lackawana.  
 

Cases are my own design.  

For me it’s a progression, observing others, trying and settling on new techniques, and incorporating them into the next project.  Always something new to learn.

 

The best part is someone seeing the work, their expression of surprise, and watching them move closer to see more.
