Le Superbe 1784 - Mantua - 1:75

Build from the Mantua kit, but with many minor and major adjustments to the original plan to improve its historical correctness (a.o. the execution of the gunports).

Great model! Can I ask how you made the acrylic (I presume) display case? I'd like to make or purchase something similar when I complete my current build.

The displaycase is plexiglas (acrylic). I had it made to measure by someone I found on the internet. There are several small companies that offer to make displaycases, at least in the Netherlands, where I live. Most of them have a website where you can get a price quote if you enter the desired thickness of the plexiglas, the dimensions of the case and what kind of finish (e.g. polished rounded edges or not). You have to find a business close to you, because sending the finished product this size is not really an option. I collected mine with my own transport.

Cases this size are not cheap, but I'm really glad I did it. I keeps the model clean, and protected. And it looks very museumlike.

Magnificent! It's a very good version of the mantua kit, I love the colours and the general aesthetics. It gives me inspiration for my Montanes. Is there a build log or other detailed photos?

Thank you! I've never thought about a build log, to be honest. At the start I never expected to come this far with the model. I have pictures of different stages of the build, some of them detailed. So, I suppose I could make an ex post build log of some sort. If that makes sense.

Thanks for the info - I'll have to see if I can find somewhere local that offers a similar service. What thickness acrylic did you need? I'm building the Amati HMS Vanguard which is just slightly bigger than yours so I imagine would require the same thickness acrylic.

The dimensions of this case are 1200x500x950x6mm. So the thickness here is 6 mm. That's ok I think, even if yours is slightly bigger. If you go seriously bigger, this would not be enough.

But you can leave it to the company you choose. There are models that predict the required thickness. If your company is professional, the'll know what to use when you give them you desired dimensions.
