igorcap got a reaction from thibaultron in 3D model of botik (boat) of Tsar Peter 1st
I was asked to make drawings on a scale of 1:20. The full dimensions of the model 370 X 120 X 340 mm were obtained.
Only 8 sheets of A2 format in PDF format for self-printing in copy center. Preview sheets and a full-size drawing fragment for quality assessment is attached.

Dear friends,
your words mean a lot for me and I am really honored. Thank you all very much.
I tried to make cannons in this scale ultra realistic and also find the suitable ways, how to achieve such result. It was not so easy as usually, but I love great challenges and this one is really attractive. I have never made these details on previous ship models. I saw "Rose and crown"relief and various marks on cannons but in fact the main advice, how to do it correctly, I got from Captain KL, who described all information in perfect details and professionally in Czech forum. That is to a great extent his merit that I have done such details. His expert advice are priceless for me and many other people, who want to create realistic models and learn a lot of useful and interesting information about real ships and their history.

Oh yes, but I cheated only a little bit. Next time I will be good, I promise.😊
Beautifully written. I have also imagined the men´s feelings on such warships. I like watching a video with HMS Victory broadside firing, it is awesome but also very terrible:

Dear friends,
I am very grateful for your kind words and support. Thank you Valeriy, Druxey, Jorge and Keith four your comments. I am pleased you like my work.
Well, this first piece took me about four hours, but I have improved the procedure and make more cannons together, so now I can save almost half the time.
Yes, of course. I am posting plenty of pics from the process below and believe, you will understand how I achieve these results.
I use various thickness of photo paper and shape it over steam.
And here you can see, how I improved the first cannon using weathering. There were also created some details to achieve more realistic result according the real guns from that period.

Hello dear friends,
thank you all for your words and praise. That is a great honor for me and i do appreciate your feedback a lot.
Thank you, Johann, zappto and Denis, I am pleased you like my work.
In fact, it really is quite simple. I usually try to find easy ways how to make things with nice results, my techniques do not need any special tools or materials. Only plenty of patience, time and experience.
I am pleased you find inspiration in my work.
BTW, my friends and serious visitors have opportunity to see all my ship models by first hand, I have them exposed all year round at home in a special room.
Hello Joe,
unfortunately we do not have children, but in future I would like to devote my best ship models to museums or somebody, who will also enjoy them like me.
Oh yes, you are right, making decorations from molds could save me a lot of time. In fact I like to create them from scratch and always enjoy very tiny and clear details. Maybe on next projects I will try to cast some equal parts. It will be something new for me.
Thank you Piet, I'm glad you enjoy it.

In recent days, I have studied plenty of information about ship ordnance. A great help for me and also colleagues from Czech Modelforum is perfectly created information from Captain KL. You can also browse on Czech forum:

I am going to make the guns out of paper/card, now I'm preparing first test pieces. For example here is my first cannon - of - seven for the lower deck of RK:

Thank you for your comments, Michel and E.J., and also to you all for the support and "likes".
Today I have finished nameplate, its base and letters are made out of card, the frame is wooden. I tried to do it in the style of English Restoration approx 1670 (the frame and small ornaments) and you can also find there initials of authors - me and Captain KL who helps me to achieve more realistic results and gives me professional advice how to do things correctly and better.
That's why you can watch here a completely different build of the Royal Katharine than those that are based on modeling plans - unfortunately, in many ways, fictional.
So enjoy the pics and have a great time.

Hello Rob,
Thank you for comment. Well, the pedestals are secured only gently in the middle section, so that they can be removed due to the additional painting of lower part of the hull.
Yes, first I cut the letters (I also use quality scissors/the Solingen brand), put them on adhesive tape and oversprayed with gold paint/Tamiya TS-21. After the first layer, the surface is still harsh with plenty of imperfections. So I applied more spray layers and after drying and placing letters on the nameplate there were again added several layers of this paint - but here I applied it using small brush. In the end the letters are smooth and more plastic.
Best regards

Now the pedestals are finished and placed under the huge hull of the Royal Katherine. Enjoy the pics and have a great time.

Thank you dear friends, I appreciate your feedback a lot. I am pleased you enjoy the pics and shots from process.
To Bob Cleek: Well, I have some offers of cooperation from model producers, so it is possible that my sculptures and various accessories will be also available for modellers. Meanwhile, there are two main problems - all my sculptures and ornaments are adapted on the specific model and a scale I make. And it is also time-consuming a lot and nobody in our country is able to pay adequately for such hand work. For example I spent 15 hours creating this pedestal.
*******************************
The surface was covered with velvet at the points of contact with the model to prevent abrasion and achieve better stabilize. The model is already stable enough on this single rear pedestal so it was safe to throw out the auxiliary supports from the center.

Hello Greg,
it was a difficult task for me, cause I do not have exact plans of the Royal Katherine, so I have to improvise from time to time. My solution is based on Vale painting, Van de Velde drawings and museum models from that period.
Royal Katherine on Vale painting:
Here was my main inspiration - the model of Saint Michael, there is also the bowsprit out of centerline and in the beakhead bulkhead there are two doors:
http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/65963.html
Of course, I am not always sure with the solution, so please do not regard my opinion as relevant. I am only an amateur, but I learn and want to improve my knowledge.😉
Best regards

Thank you for your comments, dear friends.
Druxey is right, on some ships from that period you can see the bowsprit located outside the ship's axis but its forward end is at the centerline.
For example HMS Prince:
I admire wooden models and their builders a lot, wood is very beautiful material. I also tried to make some wooden models but finally stayed at card/paper ones - it is much easier and enjoyable work for me, and I have found various ways how to improve techniques to achieve better results and get closer to the appearance and solidity of real wooden models.
Best regards,
Doris

O.K. my friends, I will add others.😉 You are right. Thank you for your opinion and advice.
BTW, there are also seats of ease on main channels - just here:

I have just placed two seats of ease on the bow. Perhaps there should be other two pieces in middle section of the grating as indicated in drawings of HMS Lenox. I also continue with surface finish of the railings.
Kind regards,
Doris

Dear friends,
I am glad you like my tutorial and it is useful for you. Thank you for your comments and kind words. After drying I started to place decoration on model, it is attached with little amount of glue - I use medium dense Super glue (industrial quality).
Here si the result, decoration on port is almost finished, the pics are in a higher quality, so enjoy them and have a great time:
Kind regards,
Doris

Before gilding I always try to attach each piece of decoration on the model to check whether it suits well:
Gilding the decoration - I use golden acrylic paint:
After gilding I relocate the ornaments to clean paper, where the paint dries. Soon I will bring other pics from the process, where you can see the final work.
Excuse my unsightly hands, they are sore from hard work I did last days.
Best regards

After baking the mass hardens but remains slightly flexible. I carefully separate each piece of decoration with a small sheet of paper or using a thin blade, but it is often quite easy to separate decoration only by bending the wax paper.

Hello Doris,
As ever, Katherine is a dazzling display of ornamental wizardry; a true feast for the eyes!
I notice your tree-nailing pattern alternates every other frame. This is something that Dan Pariser had researched for his Queen Ann’s Revenge build, and a pattern that I adopted for my build. I wasn’t sure whether it was necessarily correct for Soleil Royal in 1689, but In the absence of more concrete information, I went with it because I like it.
Do you have other more specific information about this nailing pattern? Whether it is specifically English, or more broadly in use throughout Europe?
Just curious.
