Well I decided to finish sealing the boat with sanding sealer. i also decided to build my display board and mount the Batteau before I go on with the spares and such.
If you remember my little board I rigged to help me put the bow in to the flat bottom of the boat which I missed early in the build. Well I decided it made for a nice little display board. A little black felt,,,,,1/8th square basswood for trim, and a couple of left-over barrels from my Bounty Launch and there you go...
I also decided to display the oars and hook pole on the board rather then clutter the inside of the Batteau....

So now it's time to turn thinks and continue on....

here are a few pictures from different angles...

    Hi my Friends,
Well it was time to turn the Swivel ½ pounder for the Batteau. Since I did have experience working with Ebony Gabon I knew the warning of the type of wood. You might say you can treat it like a Bee Sting. Some people get stung and get a hard pinch feeling. Few with be rushed to the hospital because the glands swell up and they can't breath.
So with Gabon you should wear a respirator or the very least a paper face mask. Plus eye protection. The danger comes from the dust of the Ebony Gabon. Ebony can cause eye irritation, respiratory problems, or even a skin irritation.
So me I was going to live with the skin irritation if the ebony bothered me. Because from my high school we were taught to never wear long selves when working with a lathe. So no long selves for me in this case....
but with all these negatives with ebony it is a very wonderful wood that was born to be turned... easy to work with. But you must use HSS turning tools because if it's hardness...

SO EVERYONE HERE ARE MY RESULTS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. IT WAS A LOT OF FUN WITH THIS LITTLE CANNON....

Thanks George. I sent the IP adress and we will see what happens next.

Just on the side. I happen to be having other problems and contacted the Goonsquad. Besides fixing a bunch of problems, the tech spent at least half an hour this morning trying to figure out how he could solve the picture posting problem. Of course, we both realized that it was not my computer but the firewall at the web site.

Now all of sudden it works. Here is the picture I tried to include in my last message on the page before.
It shows the difference between the first and last frame sets.

To continue with my model building:

Cutting the frame sets is taking a long time. One of the difficulties is that each frame has a slightly different shape. For example, below I show the first and l5th frame sets. The first ten or so are not too bad, but the further I get to the bow, the more I have to allow for the taper.
(I tried to insert a picture here and it did not work. I get a black stripe with the Sucuri firewall emblem)

For the time being, I am inserting spacers near the top. When those all look decent, I'll go ahead and glue the frames to the keel/keelson.
    (this one worked???)

Port side aft bulwark planked...   I'm cleaning up the shop a bit and I'll start on the hull planking.

Critiques, laughing out loud, pretty much anything you want to say about it is allowed, as always.

I do notice that there's a couple of place that need a touch more sanding, but those places are on hold until after the rest of the hull is planked.  Might as well get everything at once....

Update time.    Starboard side aft outer bulwark is done..  sanded and has one coat of Wipe-On poly drying.    I'll rotate the hul around and turn to on the port side aft.  I'm debating over when this part is done whether to finish the hull planking or turn my attention to the stern planking.  I guess I'll just wait and see what mood I'm in.

One small step for Licorne, one big step for me.    I got the forward outer bulwark planked to my satisfaction.   Happy Dance!!!!

The planking goes from one plank to three.  I got the middle one cut in as a proper stealer topmost goes under the ebony strip per the planking diagram (a different French frigate, but it showed me how it was done).

Here's the pic of the starboard side, and onto the aft ones.... The pic is super macro from about 4" out.  Looks better at galloping on horse back scale.

    Thanks Guys,
Haven't seen this build in a while. You can find free plans on this model at modelshipbuilder.com under Projects. wq3296 I have several vintage model from Big Daddy. I'm saving them for my little boy who wants to build them. According to what I see they are very expensive to buy originals. But I bought them when I was kid to have fun. So boy is going to build them to have fun too.

Thanks for your kind words Guys. Have a great day.
