Here are some better photos of the build so far. All the holes drilled for treenails and the first of the stain samples.

Have photos of the jig used to bend the beams. Glued the plan to a mdf board and clamp back to a couple of nails to get the curve right. Soaked the plank then clamped to the board to dry overnight. I have used rimu which looks really dark when wet, but dries a lot lighter. Two beams are now ready with one drying and one to go.

Nearly up to date with the older photos. Made a zero clearance insert for the bandsaw and cut the timber for the lower deck and gun deck. All put through thethickness sander and finished to the correct size. Now I am able to do the next few stages in the shed during the evenings. The wood is a piece of rimu that had been used a paking for a larger order of timber. I saved a few off these while I worked at a building supplies company.

Ripped down with the bench saw.

Resawn with the bandsaw. Finished with the sander after this pic was taken.

Couple more photos, these are taken with the camera on the phone late at night so the quality is somewhat lacking.

Russ, the wood will be a lot darker once I put a finish on it. The rimu and kauri will have more contrast against each other.

Ron, yes the fence is a length of 25 x 25 mm angle I had in the shed. I think it is a colour sample from work.

All fixed in place, and treenailed.

The next lot of timber is cut and sanded so I can continue working in the evenings. Recycled Rimu wall panelling and Kauri offcuts.

Couple more photos, bit more completed over the last week or so. Some of the pieces are not glued in place yet. I will fix these in the evening after work and the kids are in bed. I try to leave something quiet to do in the evenings.

This little project has slowed my work on the Triton. Slapped this together for someone in the family, just need to fix a sail and the small amount of rigging and its done. Thought I'd better get a pic of it before it goes.

This shows my multi tool table saw, made from scrap I had around the shed. The flexible shaft sits in a groove on a hinged block to set the depth and has a locking block screwed on top to hold it in place. I have put a mark on the block to line this up each time I set up. The mandrel is from a small drum sander has a small washer each side of the blade to keep it a bit more rigid. The top was screwed on then I turned on the power and raised the blade to cut through the top.

Here are some pictures of the thickness sander I built last year for my Triton cross section build. It is powered by a drill and takes a half sheet of standard size sandpaper. The metal shaft is fitted through two bearings recessed into the sides, then several wooden discs fixed to the shaft. There is a couple if holes drilled in the shaft and a small nail through each fixed to a couple of the wooden discs so they wouldnt spin. I then glued a sheet of sandpaper to a flat board and set this on the bed, turned on the drill and raised the bed to sand the surface flat to the table. The hole on top was put in later an is is to fit the vacuum hose and makes this unit virtually dust free. The drill is fixed in place but can be removed by a single screw at the handle end. I have a couple of drills so havent had to remove this yet. Being variable speed I can adjust for the fine sanding or for the first thicknessing.

Can open up to about 60mm deep and is 120mm wide. I have sanded down to 1mm succesfully and the thickness is set by the bolt at the rear of the table. Sandpaper is fixed a wooden shaft with a slot to fit the flat bar to hold the sheet in place. The only parts I paid for were the split pins that hold the shaft in place, the rest I had lying around the shed. It has now had a tidy up and a bit of paint on the top.

The square is 50mm x 30 mm, with a Rimu handle. I cut and L shaped piece then filed and sanded until it was square. The timber was glued into place with epoxy and then sanded. Finished with oil and wax. Here it is against its larger version.

The one on the left is the only store bought one. The next two are made from allen keys. One is from a spraygun needle, this doesnt hold an edge as well as the others. Last two are concrete nails ground down to size. All were ground or hammered to shape then heat treated before the final sharpening. The handles range from old file handles to hardwood blocks shaped on the lathe. Some are just a flat stick with the blade epoxied in a hole in the end.

Thanks guys, I hadn't realised it had been so long since I posted here. I stopped on the Triton for a couple of months while I worked on a few tools and sorted out the shed to make it more user friendly. I did make a couple if small chisels - only because I dont want to spend lots of money on a range of sizes. Only the 3mm one on the left is store bought. they look a bit rough bit cut nicely. The smallest one (not in pic) is 1.5mm.

I made up a small sanding disc for my dremel tool. I found 25mm feet for furniture with the nail moulded into the plastic. Sanded the face to a flat and cut stick on sandpaper to fit. Works well in hard to reach places. Also shows the 2mm chisel I made from a spraygun needle.
