The good thing is you're working with wood and you can clean up the bulkhead risers and add more wood to them. Just go slow and it will come good

Where possible i always blacken everything except the ships bell, as i think it looks more natural

Finished off the cartridge containers. Instructions say to glue the straps directly to the wood sides but i put a piece of brass wire in for the straps to fit to

Painted up and straps fitted

Randomly placed them about the deck

What Rick said about the mast hoops is correct. As tor the third hole.... I have no idea unless it's for lifting the boom or securing something to it.

Most metal fittings should be blackened. The decorative pieces such as the ship's bell and ornamentation would be a polished brass or gold plate so those should be shiny.
